This will be the 27th annual Shetland Folk Festival and although the event has been shortened this year to just 3 days, it is still expected to feature a packed programme of concerts, as well as workshops, sessions, and both scheduled and informal concerts.

The Shetland Folk Festival is a non-profit, volunteer driven organisation, dedicated to presenting the best folk music from around the globe to the local community and visitors alike. This year's line-up has not yet been announced but previous year's have included artists such as The Saw Soctors, Back of the Moon and Dougie MacLean. Further details will be published when available.

The festival features a Folk Club in Islesburgh Community Centre (entry limited to Season Ticket holders ONLY) with concerts, workshops, session rooms, food and bar. Previous years have also included special Outreach Concerts held on the adjacent isles of Cullivoe & Haroldswick although you are expected to arrange your transport there by ferry yourself.

On Sunday, the renowned Foy concerts are held over the three main venues (Clickimin, Lerwick British Legion and the Shetland Hotel) in Shetland’s capital, Lerwick, and visiting artists are shuffled between halls by mini bus, performing in each venue for around 15 minutes.

CAMPING & OTHER ACCOMODATION
Amongst others, there is a campsite at the Clickimin Centre in Lerwick. There are also B+B's, hotels and guesthouses.

GETTING THERE - ferries
The ferry service is slightly reduced in 2007 which is why the organisers have shortened it to a three-day, as opposed to what was previously a four-day, event. Northlink Ferries currently operate the overnight ferry service between Aberdeen and Shetland but early booking is probably essential especially as the first ferry before the festival starts, renowned for impromptu sessions, is likely to be packed with performers.

GETTING THERE - by plane
You can also fly from Glasgow/Edinburgh and Aberdeen with British Airways to Sumburgh, Shetland's main airport. There are several flights a day.
