After playing a surprise (cough, cough) set at Download festival earlier this year on a small stage, it was now time for these monsters of metal to show the world why they are still the undisputed masters of metal.

From the overpowering opener 'Battery' to the dying notes of their last song 'Enter Sandman', this was rock music being played exactly how it should be played - loud, fast, and with passion. Metallica showed that even at their age, they can still put on a great show.

Metallica

Frontman James Hetfield knew all the right buttons to press with the audience, which made everyone in the audience feel as if they are part of one big Metali-family.

Sadly Metallica's act is just too smooth, they have got everything down to a fine art, and at times you feel that you are watching a product rather than a band. Despite this, they were the highlight of my weekend, no wait ... highlight of my year!
