The 18th annual Hebridean Celtic Festival will take place at Stornoway in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland from Wednesday 17th to Saturday 20th of July 2013. Expect a line-up of music featuring top international artists set against the backdrop of the Gaelic culture and Hebridean heritage.

Line-up

The latest addition is Faram.

They join headliners Van Morrison, Dougie MacLean, Capercaillie, The Battlefield Band and the Red Hot Chilli Pipers. Also confirmed are Darrell Scott, Paddy Callaghan, Anderson McGinty Webster Ward and Fisher, Pete Roe, Lau, Karine Polwart, The Travelling Band, Fatherson, The Chair, Rusty Shackle,  Gria, Fèis Eilean an Fhraoich, Iain Morrison, The Boy who Trapped the Sun, Face the West, Anderson McGinty Webster Ward & Fisher, The Dirty Beggars, Rose Parade, Lewis Women and Friends, Isobel Ann Martin, Linda Macleod, Fiona Mackenzie, Micha Macpherson, Jane Hepburn, Arthur Cormack & Blair Douglas, Maeve Mackinnon, Gráinne Holland, Donal O'Connor, Ross Martin, Neil Martin, Kathleen Macinnes, and BLASTa (tasty in Gaelic) a collaboration specially commissioned for this year's HebCelt and featuring multi-talented Hebridean Gaelic singers Calum Alex Macmillan, Norrie Tago MacIver, Jenna Cumming, Gillie Mackenzie, Anna Murray and Mary Smith, and The Hot Seats.

Many complementary events are also hosted by community groups around Stornaway and the islands of Lewis and Harris catering for a variety of tastes both musical and otherwise. There are also workshops often given by many of the festival's performers, which includes masterclass sessions. Also included are the ever popular Gaelic language tasters, lectures and children's entertainment plus numerous pub sessions in Stornoway and the surrounding area. Art workshops will be given a historical twist, there's a fire show finale on Saturday.

Tickets have been held at 2012 prices, so a ticket is priced at £70 for the four days (£55 for concession and £15 for children under 14). To buy tickets, click here.

Expect main stages. There will be food outlets and social areas separating the two stages. There's also a full programme of family entertainment, as well as a street arts programme with walkabout, workshops and fire shows.

This year it is expected that the festival will be once again operating a cashless system for the bars through the introduction of bar tokens in an attempt to reduce queuing.

One Step Further competition

The One Step Further competition is open to any young band or performer, aged between 18 and 25 at the time of the festival, playing a genre of music that reflects the general programming of the event. To enter, artists need to prepare a promotional pack in electronic format that includes links to three good quality recordings of their music, at least one high resolution photograph and a biography. They can also include links to a live performance. Submissions should be sent by email by 5pm on 12 April to office@hebceltfest.com and marked HebCelt New Talent Submissions. The judging process will take place throughout next month with the winning artist/s being chosen by 4 May.

Transport

There are good public transport links, flights available to Stornoway and a regular ferry service.
