The Zutons are dressed for the occasion in bright yellow boiler suits and it’s just after lunch and the weather’s turned out nice and the beers are going down a treat as is their music! With a lovely lady on saxophone and a full sound they play inspired stuff from the debut album and it’s foot stomping fun. Although at times the sound is horrendous but it’s not the band’s fault, clearly some sound techie has had one too many mulled ciders the night before.

The Zutons

They sound like the best bits of the sixties a bit Animals and a bit The Kinks powered by The Cramps. They warm us with songs about food poisoning – very apt here, and tropical diseases and zombies and other off the wall stuff. They are together tight and fun and worth seeing live.

The hit You Will, You Won’t is met with beaming smiles and we all join in with the manic guitars and hurtling saxophone. Okay so comparisons with the Coral can’t be overlooked but there’s enough room in the music business for them both to co-exist and this is perfect Sunday afternoon stuff. Just what’s needed to brighten us up and consider the merits of a Square Pie.
