Moby
Other Stage
21:30 23rd June 2000

A packed Other Stage crowd with high expectations gathered for Moby and they were not disappointed. A consummate performer in any ones books it was clear he was up for it from the start (as he usually is but more so) jumping around and drawing in the audience as much as his multiple roles of singer, drummer and guitarist would allow.

A perfectly measured set revolved around a spattering of instantly recognised tracks from Play, such as an awesome Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad, Run On, Body Rock (dedicated to Public Enemy) and Honey, mixed in with various older techno based tracks (including a James Bond theme tune), enough it seemed to keep everybody dancing whilst Moby constantly alternated from guitar to drums to synths.

The straightforward set up of guitar, singer and drummer did full justice to the music which had the audience won over all the way through. The set climaxed with Feeling So Real (which he considers to be one of the most beautiful dance tracks ever written) before Moby ripped his shirt off (much to our female friends disappointment) and whilst playing an accelerating techno backing track stood on his synth and displayed himself for the audiences approval. He got it. He seemed to genuinely appreciate the scale of his audience and the warmth of their appreciation. The atmosphere was excellent. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank youÂ… as he likes to say. Certainly a highlight of the Glastonbury weekend.
