The event which sprang up when Oxford Folk Festival was cancelled. The community led Folk Weekend returns for a fouirth year from Friday 25th until Sunday 27th April 2014 and will be based again at the Old Fire Station, with additional events in other venues throughout the city centre.

A weekend of Morris dancing, concerts and performances, a host of free song and music events, and a huge ceilidh.

Line-up

The latest acts are Josienne Clark and Ben Walker, Greg Russell & Ciaran Algar, Steph West, Jenkinson’s Folly, Wednesday Wolves, James Bell and Rising Voices the even't own folk choir.

They join Megan Henwood, Blackbeard's Tea Party, O'Hooley & Tidow, Telling the Bees, Lester Simpson, Police Dog Hogan, The Gloworms, Chris Sarjeant with Jackie Oates, David Gibb & Elly Lucas, and Paul and Liz Davenport.

There will also be plenty of informal music sessions around the town - some programmed, some not! There will be details and a map of session pubs in the printed programme.

The early bird offer has ended. Season tickets are available online with no booking fee priced at £49 (£45 concessions, £35 youth, £25 under 12). Day and individual concert tickets will become available as the festival approaches.

Returning in 2014 is the Village Fête which will once again fill Gloucester Green with music, dance, and craft. The Handmade Makers are hosting crafts workshops, there’s a treasure trail for the whole family, fête games and a positivity tree. Throughout the weekend, the fête will be filled with a mixture of Morris dancing and performances to keep the folk fun reeling on.

The Children’s Festival takes place in the enchanting Pitt Rivers museum, Wesley Memorial Church and Westgate Central Library. The programme includes storytelling, singing workshops, Morris dancing workshops, a family ceilidh and creative workshops from local charity OYAP Trust.

There will be plenty of activities for all, including a family ceilidh on Saturday lunchtime, a concert on Saturday evening, and Morris Dancing and a Craft Fair at Oxford Castle all weekend. There will be free performances, workshops and informal music sessions, and you can even learn how to dance a schottische at the Euro-dance on Sunday afternoon!

The local community have once again pulled together to contribute to the event; Oxford Historical Dance Society are organizing an evening dance, The Ashmolean Museum are hosting free performances on the Saturday and Sunday, Oxfolk and the Folk Camps Society have sponsored events, hundreds of school children will be performing in the Wesley Memorial church, Oxford Fiddle group are playing a concert, and Oxford Folk Club and Foolish Folk are running fringe events on the Friday night.
