Croydon Summer Festival 2009

The World Party and Croydon Mela events make up the festival's big free music weekender, attracting over 40,000 with World Party on the Saturday - an eclectic mix of international artists and the colourful Croydon Mela on Sunday. The festival has 3 stages of live music, community stage, street performance, green village with games area, global market, funfair, dance/music workshops and dynamic kids’ area make for two great free days out.

Giant dinosaurs, lobster and a polar bear can be sighted and the newly installed bandstand is the place to kick back on the hay bales for some hoe down action.

The stunning site, friendly crowd and excellent production make it a firm favourite with artists and audience alike.

The festival presents the World Party on the Saturday - an eclectic mix of world, jazz and dance music - and Croydon Mela on the Sunday.

World Party line-up - Saturday
MAIN STAGE: The Proclaimers, Candi Staton, Dreadzone, Kando Bongo Man, Bishi and GMWC gospel choir, MC/DJ Normski.
WORLD STAGE: Latin Dub Sound System, Eduardo Niebla Experience, Alejandro and the Magic Tomobolinos, Wormfood, De'borah.
BANDSTAND: Programmed by The Green Dragon ft. Buffalo Bill.

Croydon Mela line-up - Sunday
MAIN STAGE: Malkit Singh, Veronica, Alaap, Swami, Grand Union Bangla Band, Lokkhi Terra.
ARCC CLASSICAL STAGE: Bireswar, Hannnah, Tarun, Dylon, and workshops.
BANDSTAND: Programmed by Indian Strings.

The event is best arrived by Tram 3 from East Croydon Station, and note that the car park will cost £5 per day, so it's best to use public transport.
