Kendal Calling will be back in the fields once again this July and following a mega line-up announcement earlier this year, the festival today reveals the hugely anticipated return of The Soapbox with Hooch. Hooch is excited to be partnering with Kendal Calling for a second year on this super fun stage. Taking place from 27 - 30 July 2023 in Lowther Deer Park in the beautiful Lake District, demand for Kendal Calling is at a record high with less than 1,000 tickets remaining. From some of the UK’s finest stand-up comics to the wild and wonderful spectacle of a Drag Bingo session, The Soapbox with Hooch is home to all things entertainment! Whether it’s a grin on your face, a groove in your step or the boggle of your mind – our very own cabaret boasts a whole variety of alternative art forms, but one thing is always certain and that’s a fantastic time! With an array of family friendly, and not so family friendly shows, there is something for all audiences. One minute you’re having your mind blown by maestros of magic, the next you’ve got Mock The Week’s finest having you nearly keel over with laughter – when there isn’t a band you want to see, The Soapbox makes the perfect stop off at Kendal Calling.

Headlining The Soapbox with Hooch this year is Ed Byrne. Through his twenty-year comedy career, he’s received huge critical and popular success in the UK and Ireland. He’s a regular face bringing belly laughs to audiences through his sell-out shows stand-up shows including Edinburgh Fringe, and regular TV appearances including Mock the Week and Have I Got News for You. The Irishman will be heading to Kendal Calling for a comedy spectacle that’s not to be missed. Also joining The Soapbox with Hooch is Tom Stade, one of the most distinctive and engaging stand-up talents around with a legion of loyal fans, as well as the award-winning stand-up who was voted Comedian's Comedian Of The Year 2021 - Mark Nelson, plus tons more from Sammy Dobson, Tamer Kattan, John Hastings, Kate Williams, Matt Reed, Gareth Mutch and Pete Selwood.

What’s more, Hooch’s Soapbox Search is back again, with applications open until 8May 2023. Anyone and everyone who fancies themselves as a stand-up comic or cabaret performer can apply to win the opportunity to perform in front of Kendal Calling festivalgoers this summer, get their name on the star-studded line-up, plus two weekend festival tickets. Kendal Calling celebrated its belated 15th Anniversary in 2022 with its biggest edition to date. There were huge headline sets from Bastille, Stereophonics, Supergrass and Hacienda Classical, alongside other highlights such as Dick ‘n’ Dom tearing apart the Parklands Stage, Barrioke, the incomparable Lancashire Hotpots and Elvana and much more. Throw in a few proposals, a fancy dress parade, laugh-out-loud comedy and even the football coming home - Kendal Calling 2022 was one for the ages.
