The Secret Garden Party is very proud to announce UNDERWORLDTHE LIBERTINES and FAT FREDDY’S DROP as the headliners for next summer’s edition 20-23 July. More line up will be announced early next year.

And in a perfect alignment of the stars, the celestial theme for SGP 2023 is also announced today as: Episode XVII - A NEW HOPE

The Head Gardener says:

“Whilst firmly going back to our roots for next summer's party, we are also boldly going where no party has gone before.

The Dance-Off are back, as are Chai Wallahs, Feast of Fools,The Village Circus, The Dog House, and new heroes such as The Provibers with The Vibrary. The old Collosillyum is being reimagined and born anew as Circus Maximus.

We've signed up celestial sonic innovators and techno pioneers Underworld to headline this caper, with romantic British punk royalty The Libertines, and one of the most celebrated international live outfits, Fat Freddy's Drop.

We'll be back.”

Underworld without question are sonic pioneering one-offs who changed the face of electronic music. They routinely headline the world’s biggest festivals, events and techno clubs. Having cemented their place in the ’90s underground techno scene, the group’s definitive breakthrough came in 1996 when their timeless anthem ‘Born Slippy (Nuxx)’ became the soundtrack of a generation after it was featured in the film Trainspotting. The success of that single catapulted the band from the underground into the heart of the mainstream.

The following two decades saw them build on that success while never compromising; selling millions of albums, performing countless sold-out shows, providing scores to productions by Academy Award winning directors Anthony Minghella and Danny Boyle, exhibiting in galleries, and sound-tracking the Opening Ceremony to the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The critical and commercial success of the band’s Grammy nominated 2016 album ‘Barbara Barbara, we face a shining future’ saw them headline stages at Coachella, Glastonbury and Summer Sonic. On 1st November 2018, Underworld launched their DRIFT series, which saw the release of new material every week for a year.

It is 20 years since the Libertines released their debut album, ‘Up the Bracket,’ making them one of the UK’s most influential bands of the 2000’s. With a supreme talent for rock n roll romanticism, songs such as, ‘Music When The Lights Go Out,’ ‘You’re My Waterloo’ and ‘Can’t Stand Me Now’ became anthems for an indie generation and a live tour de force. Pete Doherty and Carl Barat have been writing new material in Jamacia with a new album #4 hopefully recorded this year. Meanwhile they’ve released a super-deluxe package of 65 previously unreleased recordings with original demos, radio sessions and live recordings to celebrate the 20th anniversary of ‘Up The Bracket.’

Fat Freddy’s Drop are internationally regarded as one of the world’s finest live draws. The 7-piece band have navigated their way from the incubator of sunshine reggae through a colour-saturated field of soul psychedelia before swerving onto a desolate Detroit superhighway at night. It is a sound that demands to be heard live, a potent mixture of jazz virtuosity and diaphragm-wrecking digital sonics.

In more exciting news SGP will be going back to its roots as well as boldly going where no party has gone before…..

Partners include the return of The Dance Off by popular demand, Chai Wallahs, Feast of Fools, Secret FM, Small World, The Drop, The DogHouse, The Living Room, the (now infamous) secret bar, the bridge(!), an even larger Pagoda and a new version of the Collosillyum that is being reborn (with the Village Circus and He She They) as The Circus Maximus. Expect new heroes such as the The Provibers with the Vibrary, Ukukhapha (aka the party bus), The Prize Cock with more still to be announced.

General on-sale tickets are available from 10am, Friday 2nd December @ www.secretgardenparty.com  Instalment plans are available.

Boutique camping goes on sale after Christmas.

‘THE MOST CULTURALLY IMPORTANT FESTIVAL OF 2022…. Culture or Trash July 2022

Festivals aren’t just weekends in fields with music. They bind people, they create culture, and they reinvigorate us to play, like we were children again. Through its attention to detail, inclusive stages – there were so many little labyrinths of queer culture and cabaret culture in tiny little tents going on until 6am, more than perhaps even at Glastonbury – SGP’s return massively enriches the UK festival scene.’
