Today sees Glastonbury Festival's main stages spark into life with headliners Radiohead anticipated to put on a memorable 'stuff of legend's performance.
But they won't be everyone's cup of tea, and elsewhere there's the chance to enjoy headlining sets from The Flaming Lips, Dizzee Rascal, Annie Mac, Irration Steppas and more.
After a cooler and breezy morning yesterday the temperature rose as the sun broke through cloud cover and the throngs gathered in Williams Green, which was packed for The Smiths. A new Environ-mental themed Shangri-la, this year recycled from site and previous incarnations. Saw the Truth Stage draw the largest opening crowd for first act New York Brass Band, and Napalm Death. The Festival's naughty corner continued to draw the crowds and this year sees Earache Express housed in a Tube carriage bring a programme of Metal to Glastonbury for the first time including Extreme Noise Terror. The whole area features new venues this year including a double decker trash disko, cross gender shaman, a crisis pod, micro rave, and joining the women's only Sisterhood is the men only Toxic Masculinity Waste plant. But, it's the unique eye catching artwork by over 30 artists that really make the spectacle.
Also opening yesterday were Block9, The Common with an even bigger Temple, and Silver Hayes dance village. The Glade had Steve Hillage and The Orb take the crowd on an aural journey with the Funktion1 sound. They were at times accompanied by the sound bleed beats of the relocated Lovebullets, and Spaceport Bar.
Greenpeace in the Greenfields offer the chance to 'Resist' and get active in stopping the destruction of rainforest, currently disappearing at the rate of an area the size of the Festival every 15 minutes.
There's more alternative entertainment on offer today in the Theatre & Circus Fields. All of which are drenched in sunshine. The resisted John Peel stage returns among the trees and cooling walking areas to explore. The south West corner either side of The Park offer welded heaven with Arcadia's fire spewing spider, and new this year Cinemageddon.
