Festival organiser and farmer Michael Eavis has announced that Van Morrison will be performing in the ancient Glastonbury Abbey's grounds for this year's 20th annual Glastonbury Extravaganza which will take place on Saturday, 6th August and will end with the traditional firework display.

Van Morrison last headlined Glastonbury Extravaganza in 2007. He has played the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival many times over three decades, most recently in 2004. The Ieish singer said of his appearance this summer, "I've always found Glastonbury Abbey to have a special spiritual resonance for me and look forward to coming back this summer."

Farmer and the event's organiser Michael Eavis said, "We needed something really special for this 20 year celebration", and there can surely be nobody better than Van to arouse the spirits, and stir up the emotions of this wonderful place."

Janet Bell, Abbey director, added: "We are grateful to Michael Eavis for all the support he gives the Abbey, and for staging the Extravaganza here. It is a spectacular backdrop for a traditional summer night out."

Previous stars to appear at the Abbey include Sensational Space Shifters ft Robert Plant, Bryan Ferry and The Bryan Ferry Orchestra, Status Quo, Madness, and Jools Holland and in 2015 Kinks frontman Ray Davies delighted the thousands who attended.
