The Charlatans to headline Coventry's FREE Godiva festival

The Charlatans have been confirmed as the headline act for Saturday’s main stage at the Midlands' biggest three-day FREE festival Godiva Festival, attracting over 100,000 people from Friday 1st until Sunday 3rd July 2016 at War Memorial Park.

Tim Burgess, lead singer of the Charlatans said, "We're really looking forward to playing Godiva Festival. Coventry has always been a great place to play for us - I was listening to Lady Godiva's Operation by the Velvet Underground when we were asked to play. It was a sign that it's going to be a good night."

Supporting The Charlatans will be Mystery Jets.

They are the first acts to be revealed for this year's line-up.

Godiva will be covering music to suit all tastes and featuring the ever-popular Godiva Unsigned, showcasing fresh, local talent.

In addition to live musical the free and ticketless event was also hosts an annual carnival, a fairground and many more family and community based activities and entertainment.

Cllr Abdul Khan, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Events, said: "I'm really pleased we can announce the first two acts for Saturday night's main stage at Coventry Godiva Festival 2016. Live music is such an important part of the Coventry Godiva Festival mix and we always work hard to provide some big names alongside Coventry and Warwickshire’s own musical talent.

"As ever, we’ll also ensure we provide festival-goers with a variety of entertainment during the weekend, including comedy, family attractions, outdoor adventures and the ever-popular giant funfair.

"Our events team are hard at work behind the scenes confirming more bands and acts to take to the Godiva Festival stage, so there will be plenty more announcements coming soon!"
