Coldplay have revealed that their favourite places to play in the world is Glastonbury Festival and that the Festival will be their inspiration behind their Super Bowl 50 halftime show.

This Sunday night Coldplay will take centre stage during the Super Bowl halftime show watched on TV by almost 120 million viewers. During a press conference yesterday Chris Martin revealed the band were getting excited and gave some details about what to expect.

Martin and the rest of the band, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion,  revealed little about what was in store. "We decided we'd play all our No. 1s and work out how to fill the other 10 minutes," A reference to 'Viva La Vida' being the band's only No. 1 hit in the United States.

He explained that their inspiration for their big show came from one of their most beloved music festivals. He told reporters, "One of our favourite places to play in the world is a place called Glastonbury Festival, which is a big music festival that happens in England. It's full of colour and pageantry, and it's an amazing sort of spiritual home of music in England."

He continued, "We wanted to bring that sort of vibe to the Super Bowl halftime show. We can't compete with amazing dance routines and all of that. We have to try to do what comes naturally to us, which is to try and provide a bit of fun and a great atmosphere for people to come and be together and be communal and enjoy the general experience."

In good humour Matrtin also joked about the chances of going wrong, referencing Katy Pery's performance last year, saying, "It's a difficult question to answer. You're saying which part of our show will fuck up terribly. First of all, let me say this. I've seen left shark so many times, he did great, there seemed to be a lot of fuss over nothing. I thought he was wonderful -- he or she -- whoever was in there. I don't know is the answer. Speak to us next week."

Martin also revealed that as well as Beyonce there will be another past halftime act who will be part of the proceedings. Viewers of the game between Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos will have to wait and see how much of the Festival vibe is transposed to the football stadium, and whether the other guest is Adele who was first linked to the event last November.

Coldplay, along with Muse, Radiohead, and Adele are heavily rumoured to be potential headliners at this summer's Glastonbury Festival

Tickets for this year have sold out. For those still hoping to get tickets, there is good news. There will be a re-sale in Spring, but the number of tickets will, as expected be limited.

The dates for the 2016 Festival will be from Wednesday 22nd to Sunday 26th June. There are no acts confirmed yet for 2016. Expect something like 2,000 performances at over 100 venues including music, cabaret, theatre, circus, a fantastic Kidz area, poetry, green crafts and information, site art, decor, and loads, loads more ... much more than just the music, so make sure you check it all out!
