The 10th Sunrise Celebration due to happen at Piercefield Park, Chepstow over the bank holiday weekend from Thursday 21st to Sunday 24th May has been cancelled.

Organisers have contacted eFestivals saying, "Sunrise will be making a public statement later on today. The racecourse at the 11th hour placed unworkable noise restrictions onus that meant we are unable hold the event."

The statement on Bristol Ticket Shop (here)  says:

ALL tickets will be honoured or refunded but bear with us as we need to get the organisation side sorted. We should have basic instructions by midnight tonight and Shindig Weekender offer up by this evening.

THE ANNOUNCEMENT FROM SUNRISE

1) The bad news. We’ve been told at the eleventh hour that we can’t run our main stage and dance stage above a level much louder than you would find in a library. To us, that makes Sunrise this year impossible as we've spent months booking a music line up for you all to enjoy. We’ve tried every which way to get round this. We can’t. So with deepest regret we’ve had to cancel.
2) But that doesn’t mean you cant have a wonderful party with us this weekend. Shindig festival, at a secret venue, tickets must be exchanged beforehand at Bristol Ticket Shop for Shindig membership, (and we'll still give you a partial refund). [This exchange must happen first you can't turn up at Shindig with Sunrise tickets]. And though we won’t have our bill of fare to offer, their line-up is pretty impressive. And many of the Sunrise people will be there, bringing the Sunrise vibe.
3) And we’re in talks with two other major festivals, both due to happen in August, about making Sunrise tickets valid for their events.
Remember 2008, when rain stopped play by turning Sunrise into Mudrise? We swapped all our tickets for tickets to the Big Chill… and had a wonderful Sunrise area where we all stayed together with many of the core tents and stages that make Sunrise special. The same teams who made that possible are now making calls and doing deals… and while we can’t say anything yet, we should have something big to announce by the weekend.
4) These deals ONLY apply to people who have bought their tickets through Bristol Ticket Shop. If you purchased elsewhere, you may have to get a refund. But if - and only if you’re a BTS customer…
DON’T call your credit card company and request a refund! It will slow BTS refunds down for Everyone.

Sunrise had the levels of noise in writing from Chepstow. The decision by the EHO  is completely out of the blue. They are also insured with a reputable event insurer and are waiting for a decision as to whether they are covered.

We want to stress that this was totally unexpected and absolutely nothing to do with bad planning by Sunrise as the venue the event licence holder.

You will all be compensated and within a few days, you could discover that your ticket is worth more than you ever expected.
If you don’t like what’s on offer when the announcement is made… you can then claim your refund…from BTS.
Just please bear with us. We know you will because we love the people who go to Sunrise. We just need a bit of time to get organised. Thank You!!

The line-up was set to include Kosheen Unplugged, Sam and The Womp, Holotronica, Laid Blak, King Porter Stomp, Lazy Habits, Johnny Cage & the Voodoogroove, Charlie Miller & The Soul Agents, Rodney Branigan, JC's Hopeless Sinners, Chris Tofu and Tall Tim, IllumiNaughty, Elixir of Life, Eden, Twisted Playhouse, Swing'n'Tingz, IllumiNasty, and Happy Daze. They have put together a line-up over four days and nights with GMS, Morten Granau, System 7, Krafty Kuts, Far Too Loud, 1200 Mics (DJ Set), Laughing Buddha, Avalon, DJ Deekline, Sonic Species, Ed Solo, and Future Frequencies, Jungle Cakes, Shane Gobi, Mirror System, Soundaholix (DJ Set), Growling Machines, Itchy & Skratchy, Juggling, Liquid Ross, Tongue & Groove, Final Conflict, Leuce Rhythms, Dexter, Matt Lickess , EE'SH, Steve Podmore, LlamaLeaf, and many more.
