Festival organiser and farmer Michael Eavis has made a licence application to hold the Glastonbury Extravaganza which will take place at Glastonbury Abbey's grounds for the next two years, until 2016.

The Extravaganza has been held every year since 1996 except in 2012 and the Festival is now applying for a licence to hold the event from now until 2016, rather than apply each year for a licence.

Michael is quoted in the Central Somerset Gazette, (here), as saying, "I was delighted that Robert Plant and his Sensational Space Shifters chose to perform at the Abbey for our 18th year.

"By applying for a licence for 2015 and 2016 as well as 2014, we can start our planning even earlier. The night of the Extravaganza is a great chance for those locally who missed out on the festival or prefer a wonderful night at the Abbey."

Janet Bell, Abbey director, adds, "The Extravaganza is always a fantastic event and we’re grateful to Michael and his team for holding it at the Abbey. Applying for a licence to cover three years allows us all to plan."

This year's event on Saturday, 9th August is headlined by Robert Plant's new band, Sensational Space Shifters ft Robert Plant includes West African musician Juldeh Camara, guitarists Skin Tyson and Justin Adams, drummer Dave Smith, Massive Attack keyboardist John Baggott, and bassist Billy Fuller.

Previous stars to appear at the Abbey include Status Quo, Madness, Van Morrison and Jools Holland and in 2013 Bryan Ferry and The Bryan Ferry Orchestra delighted the thousands who attended.
