One of the most highly regarded and respected events on the folk music scene founded in 1980 will continue after a new group of Wimborne residents and business folk have come together to proceed with the mammoth task of organising and continuing the legendary festival!

After 32 years, the previous festival organisers, decided that they were unable to continue organising the festival and as such, there would be no more Wimborne Folk Festival. However the event returns in 2013 as the Wimborne Minster Folk Festival.

Wimborne Folk Festival was founded in 1980 and had become one of the largest gathering of dance teams and musicians in the South of England.

The event is based on the town centre's streets and attracts thousands of visitors from all over the UK, and from the rest of the world. The festival features both contemporary and traditional music with a mixture of singers and musicians, plus lots of Morris Dancers, ceilidh groups and callers.

Last year the event's voluntary organisers decided that they were unable to continue organising the festival due to the lack of financial support from local business and retired after 32 years of putting on one of England's largest annual folk music and bringing some of the best traditional English & Celtic musicians and dancers to the area.

The new Wimborne Minster Folk Festival has just announced its line-up for the weekend of Friday 7th until Sunday 9th June 2013. Acts confirmed include the new-look Albion The Albion Band, The Carrivick Sisters, Corncrow, Katriona Gilmore & Jamie Roberts, Blair Dunlop, Union Jill, Colvin Quarmby, Ritchie-Parrish-Ritchie born out of Tanglefoot, and Fifteen String Trio.

Wimborne Minster Folk Festival promises three days of 'folk, family and fun', with the much-loved mix of dance displays, family activities, workshops and stalls returning to the historic minster town's streets.

Meanwhile, the concerts at the Allendale Centre will showcase superb live music from artists spanning the current folk spectrum.

Mike Carhart-Harris, Chair of the Wimborne Minster Folk Festival committee, said, "We're thrilled to have such a high calibre of artists performing at Wimborne's new festival, promising three evenings of the finest live folk music to round off the family-friendly daytime events.

Wimborne would not be Wimborne without the 'folkie' and we are delighted that these artists will be joining the many dancers and musicians who will perform around the town in June to get the new festival off to the best possible start
."

An early bird weekend ticket is priced at £40. Ticket pricing does not include camping. The festival campsite is being organised by Wimborne Town Football Club just a few minutes walk from the town centre. The cost is £10 per tent per night.
