Festival Republic have been given the green light to raise the crowd capacity of Leeds Festival to just under 80,000.

The event organisers say they will only cater to the increased numbers, if ticket sales indicate there is a demand. The decision has been revealed in a report compiled for Leeds City Council's licensing committee this month by Festival Republic. Last summer capacity was raised from 69,999 to 74,999.

The council report says: "Consultation with the responsible authorities suggests that there would be no objection to the proposed capacity provided that the site facilities and supporting infrastructures were adequate to support this."

Festival Republic has previously said it hopes that by 2014 the site will be able to have just under 90,000 festival goers in attendance. The same as it's sister event which takes place the same weekend in Reading.

The dates for Leeds Festival 2012 are confirmed as on the bank holiday weekend, from Friday 24th to Sunday 26th August at Bramham Park, Leeds, West Yorkshire.

There are no acts confirmed yet for 2012, the first acts will be announced on Monday 12th March at 7.15pm. For the line-up rumours as available, please click here.

Tickets are expected to be limited to a maximum of two per person and per credit card for those booking online. U16s (15 & under) must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
