Thrash metal's 'Big Four' have been announced as the Friday night headliner at next summer's Sonisphere at Hertfordshire's Knebworth House.

Metallica
Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax will come together to the UK for the first time ever.

Last summer saw the live debut of 'The Big Four' with fans all over Europe barely able to contain their excitement, as over 500,000 metalheads bore witness to the European Sonisphere shows.

The Big 4 fever did not stop at Europe, as fans the world over eagerly anticipated the possibility of seeing the historical show for themselves in their own countries. Such was the demand that a live cinecast of the Bulgarian show saw over 130,000 people turn out to local cinemas, with reports of mosh pits breaking out in movie theatres across the globe. There's also a recently released DVD of the event, which features all four bands collaborating on a cover of Diamond Head's 'Am I Evil' as well as their individual sets.

They join the previously announced headliners Biffy Clyro on Saturday and Slipknot on Sunday.

A limited number of three-day non-camping tickets are available from £140, while full weekend camping tickets start from £165.

A non-refundable deposit scheme is also running to allow festival-goers to secure their tickets now for £50 each, with the balance payable by 1st March 2011.

Sonisphere takes place at Knebworth House, Hertfordshire from Friday 8th until Sunday 11th July 2011.

The event has one main arena with a stage at either end of the site, as well as a few smaller stages. The two main outdoor stages, will have around a dozen acts alternating between one stage and another to keep the music continuous, whilst not having two acts playing at the same time.
