Festival organiser and farmer Michael Eavis will be bringing Status Quo, Katherine Jenkins, and the National Symphony Orchestra to the Abbey for next year's Glastonbury Extravaganza.

Michael Eavis has announced that at 9am on Friday 3rd December tickets for the Extravaganza go on sale - the sixteenth consecutive and the last Extravaganza before he takes time out during the Olympic year.

In 2011 there will be two great contrasting concerts in the glorious Glastonbury Abbey grounds, Somerset over the weekend of Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th August 2011, featuring Status Quo on the Saturday and Katherine Jenkins, and the National Symphony Orchestra on the Sunday.

Saturday 6th August 2011 will see the return of 'Quo at the Abbey' with legendary rock band Status Quo, who brought the house down at a sell-out Extravaganza in 2009, and return to bring a nostalgic performance of their much loved classics to the ancient Abbey Grounds. Their support act has yet to be confirmed.

On Sunday 7th August 2011 farmer Eavis is delighted to introduce to Extravaganza supporters, for the first time, the stunning Katherine Jenkins, accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra and special guests.

Eavis said, "I am delighted that Status Quo have agreed to come back to the Extravaganza again as tickets sold out so quickly the last time they played. I know there were many disappointed people then – so what could be a better Christmas present for them than to get another chance to see Quo at the Abbey? It was such a success last time – people are still talking about the show!"

"Next year will be the last time to enjoy the Extravaganza until 2013" Eavis added, "In 2012 we are having a total year off, no Glastonbury Festival, no Pilton Party, and no Extravaganza. We have run the Extravaganza every year since we first started in 1996 and I am looking forward to a complete year off. My wife Liz and I are planning a long holiday touring the British coast and this will be the first real holiday we've had since we got married 10 years ago."

Katherine Jenkin's first album, 'Premiere', made her the fastest-selling mezzo-soprano to date and she had two number one albums in the same year. Katherine's sparkling personality has made her a firm favourite wherever she performs, be it Westminster Cathedral, the Millennium Stadium or Sydney Opera House. It goes without saying that, as ever, fireworks will add an extra-special dimension to this already exceptional production.

Michael enthused, "I was really pleased that Katherine Jenkins becomes available for the 2011 Extravaganza – she has achieved so much in a short time, a wonderful voice and such an attractive personality. She is a stunning performer who has become a Welsh national treasure. I know it is a change for the classical night not to have The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra playing, but Katherine will be singing many similar classical favourites that we all love, accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra, and of course, the Dragonfire display will ensure we end with the usual high quality firework show."

Tickets will be priced at £32.50 per Adult ticket (in advance). £17.50 for children (aged 6 – 16 years). 5's and under free. Children must be accompanied by a ticket-holding adult. Tickets will go on sale on Friday 3rd December and are anticipated to sell very quickly. eFestivals will have links to buy them then.

Tickets will be able to be purchased over the telephone by calling 01458 834596, or by buying tickets online.

Tickets will also be able to be bought in person by calling at the Glastonbury Festival Office in Northload Street, Glastonbury (during the working week) or The Glastonbury Abbey Shop in Magdalene Street, (open seven days a week).

To receive tickets in time for Christmas orders must be received by 16th December 2010.
