Robert Plant is the latest act announced for this year's BBC Electric Proms taking place from Thursday 28th to Saturday 30th of October 2010.

Robert Plant and The Strange Sensation
Robert Plant has enjoyed great solo success since the 1980s, and recently won five Grammy Awards for the album Raising Sand, in which he collaborated with bluegrass singer Alison Krauss.

Although best known as the lead vocalist and lyricist of the phenomenally successful rock band Led Zeppelin, Plant's Electric Proms performance will concentrate on his personal musical influences: ranging from Delta blues through to rock, and the native sounds of Africa.

He will be joined on stage on Friday 29th October by rock group Band Of Joy including vocalist Patty Griffin (the band name itself is recycled from Plant's own pre-Zepplin group, formed in the mid-1960s) and the London Oriana Choir.

The set will feature a number of much-loved Led Zeppelin and solo numbers together with eclectic new material from his latest critically acclaimed release, Band of Joy.

The concert will be broadcast live on Radio 2 at 8pm on Friday 29th October and then there will be a highlights show on BBC Two on Saturday 6th November, together with an exclusive documentary about his music and life.

Mark Cooper, Executive Producer, A Night With Robert Plant said, "Robert Plant is on fire at the moment with five-star reviews following the release of his new album. Wherever he goes with a brilliant live band lead by guitarist/producer Buddy Miller he is causing a stir wherever he plays. Plant has never been afraid to reinvent his music and this adventurous show in which he explores material from the Band of Joy album, reinterprets Led Zeppelin classics and combines with the London Oriana Choir, will be a sonic adventure with an artist who's too busy exploring new sounds to settle for merely being a legend. Combining Robert's Electric Prom with a documentary in which he talks in detail about his music and career should make for a great Night With Robert Plant for BBC Two."

Robert Plant is the latest addition to the line-up that includes the previously announced Elton John, Leon Russell, Plan B, and Rumer who appear on the first night of the BBC Electric Proms which allows artists to perform something a bit different, whether it be a performance of rare tracks, a unique collaboration or a cross bridging of genres.

Acts for the other special concert on Saturday 30 October at London's The Roundhouse has not yet been announced. Tickets are not on sale yet, and prices have not yet been confirmed.
