Hawkwind announced for Standon Calling

Veteran space rockers Hawkwind will be celebrating their 40th anniversary with a special performance at the Intergalactic themed Standon Calling.

Hawkwind have played more than two thousand gigs all over the world and laid on some mind–boggling tours. Hawkwind perform, not only with musicians, but a whole entourage of dancers, fire eaters and other assorted bods all working to make each gig a multi–media spectacular of lights, sound and visual theatrics that captivate the audience throughout the show and for some time after. The space rockers Hawkind will be celebrating their 40th anniversary with a special festival appearance at the festival which is utilising the 400-year anniversary of Galileo unveiling his telescope as it's theme this year.


The acts confirmed for the festival include Saturday headliners Friendly Fires, plus Femi Kuti & The Positive Force, Tony Christie, Ladytron, Sun Ra Arkestra, The Whip, Easy Star All Stars, Ed Harcourt, Freeland (Live), Golden Silvers, The Aliens, Tommy Sparks, N.A.S.A., Delphic, Babyhead, The Fabulous Penetrators, Chrome Hoof, Micachu & The Shapes, Eddy Temple-Morris, Dave Haslam, Son Of Dave, Paloma Faith, We Have Band, Dent May And His Magnifecent Ukulele, Casiokids, The Invisible, Selfish Cunt, Chew Lips, Josh Weller, A.Human, Louis Barrabas & The Bedlam Six, Pulled Apart By Horses, Hook And Twin, Delirium Tremens, First Aid Kit, Your Twenties, and Citadels, with many more confirmed. Standon Calling which takes place from from Friday 31st July until Sunday 2nd August at Standon, Ware, Hertfordshire can also expect to see Stranger Than Paradise's CCCP Cosmonaut Training Centre, take part in an Intergalactic fancy dress competition, Rockaoke, or Beach Hut Karaoke, visit Salena Godden's Book Club Boutique tipi, take in the Skandalous! presented Intergalactic Red Light District, check out an Underwater Disco, Heritage Arts' Heliocentre live theatre experience, chat to Extra-terrestrial experts from CERN, or put themselves in for an Astrological Blind Date with an alien Cilla and more.

There are numerous stages and the odd unexpected stage appearing from nowhere. The festival boasts a number of bars, one of which is hewn out of an enormous oak tree, secret areas, interactive theatre, swimming pool (with underwater dance area), boutique camping (beach huts, yurts and tipis), kids area, and festival food.

The organiser are trying to make this festival as ethical and green as possible, recycling all and sundry and sourcing locally where possible and they are raising money for charity too.
