Neil Young has been announced as the third named headliner for this year's Glastonbury Festival.

Festival organisers have confirmed Neil Young's headlining appearance as well as an appearance of Fleet Foxes at this year's Festival.

Festival organiser Michael Eavis said, "We give it a go and every year people come to the festival and ask the same question: When is Neil Young playing? So this is big news for us. I've seen him play many times over the years but I think he's better than ever at the moment, it's one hell of a show."

The Worthy farmer added, ""And the wonderful thing about Neil Young is that every generation loves his music, you can hear him in some of the younger bands like Fleet Foxes, who will also be playing at the Festival this year, so it's a big one for all of us. With Neil on the bill we are close to completing our best ever line-up."

The 63 year old singer's confirmation ends speculation on the three headliners for this year, with Neil Young joining Bruce Springsteen and the reunited Blur as top billing.

For over forty years Neil Young has pioneered musical genres and influenced generations of fans and is one of the most significant artists of the rock and roll era. His influence, and inspiration within the music scene derives from his longevity with a career spanning more than four decades.

Neil Young's genre-spanning career has seen him put his hand to over 60 albums as a solo artist and band member. He recorded three consecutive number one albums as Crosby, Stills Nash and Young, who are often labelled 'the American Beatles'. Neil Young's first solo number one came in 1972 when he dominated the charts with 'Harvest'.

Tickets for Glastonbury Festival held for five full days from Wednesday 24th until Sunday 28th June 2009 at Worthy Farm, Pilton, Somerset have already sold out months before the event.

However, it's unlikely that they'll be a huge number of tickets available on that day. They will be priced at £175 (plus a booking fee of £5).
