Scotland's newest dance music festival, Homecoming, taking place over the May Bank Holiday weekend has been launched today, with Armin Van Buuren, confirmed to appear.

The event will take place at Irvine Beach Park, Ayrshire, on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd May. This new festival will play host to 12 arenas over two days and each day will run for 14 hours, finishing at 2am. Homecoming is part of a five year plan supported by North Ayrshire Council and Irvine Bay Regeneration Company.

The line-up announced so far includes Tim Westwood, Taio Cruz, Dimitri From Paris, Krafty Kuts, Utah Saints, Dumb Blonde, Yves Klein Blue, and Kate Lawler. Plus DJ sets from the Pigeon Detectives, and Snow Patrol. The headlining live act will be announced shortly, and the festival is expected to host over a hundred artists over the two days.

Tiesto's label Black Hole, Twice As Nice, We Love, RemixFM, Helter Skelter, and A State Of Trance will host arenas, and Glasgow music venue The Box will have a 'New Talent Stage' offering a platform for unsigned bands giving them the chance to play both The Box and at the festival. Bands will be selected by heats at The Box with the winning acts playing over the weekend.

Grant Ruxton, the event organiser, made a statement saying, "Homecoming is an ambitious five year festival programme. If you are impressed by what you see in May 2009, then we would say that this is only the beginning. West Central Scotland is possibly the only area in the UK that does not stage a major high quality outdoor music festival."

"In the year of Homecoming, it is appropriate to put this right and create such a festival, with high aspirations and the full on festival flavour, right in the middle of Burns country. We expect that Rabbie would have approved."

Ruxton continued, "The Irvine area is undergoing a huge regeneration and we are delighted to be part of the project. We are thrilled to have secured some of the hottest acts around for our first year and will be offering festival goers a diverse and exciting line up. There are many acts still to be announced so watch this space."

Early bird weekend passes went on sale today priced at £85. These passes are exclusively available until Tuesday 10th March when day passes will go on sale, priced at £55 per day. The weekend pass also includes other savings such as half price camping passes. To buy tickets, click here.

Homecoming will also offer festival goers a funfair, campsite, silent disco, comedy tent, and more. Travel to the event will be provided by a fleet of trains and buses, regularly ferrying festival goers to and from the site. The event is strictly for over 18s only.

Patrick Wiggins, Chief Executive of Irvine Bay Regeneration Company, stated, "We are delighted to welcome an event that will bring people, excitement and an economic boost to Irvine Bay. We are sure the location for the concert will provide a stunning backdrop that will be enjoyed by everyone involved."
