Hi De Hi star reveals Camp Bestival line-up including P J Harvey, and Mercury Rev

plus Chic, Candi Staton, Bon Ivor, Erol Alkan and more

Camp Bestival has revealed the first round of this year's line up with Peggy from Hi De Hi unveiling them online, to see the announcement video form, see below.


There's a wealth of acts revealed which includes P J Harvey performing her only UK solo show, and American alt rock group Mercury Rev.

The line-up for what's being billed as the 'Great British camping holiday' also includes seventies disco and R&b band Chic feat. Nile Rogers, indie folk favourites Bon Iver, and the legendary soul singer Candi Staton.

Announcing the line-up festival organiser Rob Da Bank said, "We're coming back better and more equipped for 2009. Having PJ Harvey’s only solo UK show of 2009 is just amazing, Bon Iver made my album of the year last year, Chic and Candi Staton are funk and soul legends and Mercury Rev are one of the all time out there rock bands."

The raft of acts heading for Lulworth Castle in Dorset, also consists of Roots Manuva, dan le sac Vs Scroobius Pip, The Cuban Brothers, Ebony Bones, Dub Pistols, Beardyman, Chase & Status featuring MC Rage & Plan B, and Drums of Death.

Festival goers will also be entertained by Rusko, Micachu and the Shapes, Hayseed Dixie, Horace Andy and Dub Asante Band, Bastila, Dan Black, Hockey, Imelda May, Laura Izibor, Marina and the Diamonds, O'Death, and Wave Machines, with many more still to be announced.

Rob Da Bank continued, "Throw in some of my favourite DJs from DJ Derek and High Contrast to Annie Mac and Gilles Peterson and we're having a party! Plus lots more music listed below and to be announced soon!! As always Camp Bestival is about the family - young or old, parents or not - the River Cottage doing their first café at a festival is gonna be tasty, we launch our own Real Ale Festival within the festival, the English National Ballet and Silent Disco go head to head and I'm really pleased to welcome Lets Go Crazy, THE underage teen phenomenon for musically clued up kids. Last but not least our 100 free things for children has to be the bargain of the festival season. See you at the Castle overlooking the sea."

The festival which takes place from Friday 24th to Sunday 26th July has also announced a host of DJs including Erol Alkan, Rob da Bank, Zane Lowe, Annie Mac, DJ Yoda, Andy C & MC GQ, Aeroplane, High Contrast, DJ Derek, Gilles Peterson, Scratch Perverts, Benga, Boys Noize, Greg Wilson, Trojan Sound System, Skream, Barry Peters, Frank Tope, Sombrero Sound System, and Fear of Theydon with many more also still to be announced.

As well as music the festival offers a wealth of other entertainment including comedy, arts & crafts, spoken word, dance, jousting, and a 100 free things for kids to do.

The first comedy acts announced include Frankie Boyle (a UK Festival Exclusive), Phill Jupitus, Marcus Brigstocke, Andrew Maxwell, and Andre Vincent.

Spoken word and literature also make a return to the festival with Scroobius Pip, Excentral Tempest, A Poem Inbetween People, Tim Clare, Neil Boorman, Richard Milward, Chris Killen, Joe Stretch, Ross Raisin, Bookslam feat. Patrick Neate, Laura Dockerill (Dockers MC) and Salena Godden, and Damian Barr all confirmed.

Finally there's news of some of the other entertainment on offer this year, such as the English National Ballet presenting 'Angelina Ballerina, River Cottage Café with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, a Silent Disco , Penguin Children's Books Tent with a lively mixture of traditional favourites such as Peter Rabbit and Spot and television characters including Doctor Who, Harry Potter and Peppa Pig. Underage 'Let's Go Crazy' Parties, boutique camping (available to hire now), a real ale festival, The Sunday Times Coffee Mornings, and the return of jousting with The Knights Of Lulworth.

Camp Bestival is all about bringing back the British Holiday Camp... Bestival style! A place where Hi de Hi camping capers meet the spirit of early festivals and promise spacious campsites, family facilities, country fare, local foodstuffs and more.

Tickets are vailable now, an adult weekend ticket is priced at £130, with a child ticket (aged 12 to 16) priced at £65, with children under-12 free (but require a ticket), and campervans cost £60 per vehicle. Camp Bestival is offering a deposit scheme, £50 to secure an adult ticket, or £27.50 for a child ticket.
