Glastonbury Festival Glastonbury Festival 2008

Glastonbury Festival organiser Emily Eavis, is supporting the new collaboration between Hunter Boot, the Wellington boot maker and the international charity WaterAid at the 2008 Glastonbury Festival.

Hunter Boots, who have been making waterproof footwear since 1856, have specially designed limited edition boots that will be signed by artists, performers and other recognised personalities and auctioned after the festival to raise money for WaterAid.

A limited edition run of these unique boots will be also be sold from July 2008 exclusively through the Hunter web-site with a donation per sale going to WaterAid.

Funds raised from the sale of the boots and the auction will go to four rural communities in Madagascar to enable them to gain access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education. The Malagasy Government reports that in Madagascar only 27% of the population has safe water and 36% have adequate sanitation. For the majority of the 17.3million people who live in Madagascar, the lack of access to safe water and sanitation has a severe impact on health and livelihood. Malaria, diarrhea, dysentery and respiratory diseases are common place in rural Madagascar and millions of work and school days are lost each year because of illness.

Emily Eavis commented, "We are encouraging our performers and guests to sign pairs of Hunter WaterAid boots backstage during the festival to ensure we help raise as much money as possible."

WaterAid is one of the key international charities with a long term association with the Glastonbury Festival, helping to ensure that toilets are maintained and thirsty festival goers are watered, while raising awareness of WaterAid and its campaigns.

Mike Todd, International Sales Director for Hunter Boot Limited said, "We are delighted to be involved with such an exciting and worthwhile project which we hope will raise significant funds for WaterAid and help educate people about the issues concerning water usage and sanitation."

£20,000 will be donated to WaterAid but if sales of the limited edition boots exceed expectations then there is an opportunity for more money to be raised and donated from the sale of the boots. The Wellie boot people are also running a competition to win a pair of tickets and boots.

eFestivals donates around 1% of our yearly turnover (turnover, not profit) as cash to charities and good causes. Donations have been made to various charities, with the main beneficiary each year being WaterAid.
