Meltdown Meltdown 2008

Meltdown festival held at the Southbank Centre, London from Saturday 14th to Tuesday 24th June have announced some new additions to the line-up for this year's festival which is being curated by Massive Attack.

First up is an evening with MC5 and Primal Scream which takes place at the Royal Festival Hall on Tuesday 24th June. Then in the Front Room at Queen Elizabeth Hall there is to be a showcase of DJs titled The Dubstep Chronicles and featuring performances from Mala (Digital Mystikz), Benga (Tempa), Kode9 (Hyperdub), Skream (Tempa), Pinch (Tectonic), Horsepower (Tempa), The Moody Boyz (Studio Rockers) with a live band JazZstePpa (Hotflush) and taking place on Tuesday 17th June.

Another of the Reprieve Events has been announced with a screening of the documentary film Fourteen Days In May on Saturday 14th June at the Purcell Room at Queen Elizabeth Hall. This will be followed by a post screening discussion between the film's director Paul Hamann, director of Reprieve Clive Stafford Smith and exonerated death row prisoner Nick Yarris.

The Rendition Monologues will be screened on Saturday 21 June in the Purcell Room at Queen Elizabeth Hall. The film weaves together the first-hand testimonies of victims of extraordinary rendition; the kidnapping and illegal transfer of terrorism suspects and others considered to be implicated in the 'War on Terror' to be interrogated in nation states with a reputation for torture.

Reprieve uses the law to enforce the human rights of prisoners from death row to Guantanamo Bay. To find out more visit www.reprieve.org.uk.

Tickets for all these additional events will go on sale to all from 9am on Wednesday 14 May.

Each year Meltdown offers a guest director the chance to produce their own fantasy festival, mixing artists and art forms, and reflecting their own personal passions and interests.

Massive Attack's line-up includes a really mixed and diverse musical programme with Elbow, Grace Jones, Terry Callier, Gang Of Four, Horace Andy, Gong, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Fleet Foxes, Stiff Little Fingers, The Shortwave Set, Martina Topley-Bird, and Tunng amongst the artists playing.

Massive Attack are following in the footsteps of previous festival hosts John Peel, Robert Wyatt, Scott Walker, David Bowie, Lee 'Scratch' Perry, Morrissey, Patti Smith and Jarvis Cocker.

During Meltdown, Massive Attack will take over all 21 acres of the Southbank Centre, including the riverside, Royal Festival Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall. The trip hop heroes will curate the event throughout the nine days with concerts, DJ sets, talks, films, and visual art all flavoured with their own strong political and visual elements.

Prices vary depending on show and venue, to buy tickets for those events that have previously been announced click here.
