Latitude Latitude 2008

Latitude Festival which happens in the grounds of the historic Henham Park Estate in Suffolk, from Thursday 17th to Sunday 20th July has announced some of the entertainment on offer away from the music stages.

The new acts include more productions and performances exclusive to the festival being showcased at the fuel cell powered Theatre Arena from the likes of the previously announced The Royal Court, the Bush Theatre, nabokov, and Paines Plough who will be presenting Crazy Love by Che Walker. The National Theatre will be bringing a play chosen from their New Connections project. Classical theatre comes to Latitude with the Royal Shakespeare Company, and a selection of specially commissioned mini 5 minute epic plays.

Walter Raleigh's School Of Night was a clandestine and arcane underground sect who some scholars believe wrote Shakespeare's plays. Now Ken Campbell and his team of highly skilled improvisers capable of playing in any theatrical style revive the School of Night for the 21st century. The Operating Theatre Company, who develop new writing for theatre, brings 'I'm a Minger!', to Latitude. Elsewhere at the festival Sadler's Wells will dance on a stage, floating in the middle of the lake, as will The Irrepressibles.

Latitude's Comedy Arena will have a larger tent and big screens to showcase the talent taking to the stage. Latitude has announced more performers for this year's comedy line-up. Frankie Boyle, Robin Ince, Lee Mack, Stewart Lee, Russell Kane, Arnab Chanda, and Rufus Hound will be joining Bill Bailey, Ross Noble, Rich Hall, Simon Amstell, Russell Howard and Phill Jupitus and friends.

Latitudes Music & Film Arena promises a mix of film and documentaries with live performances and stunning visuals. Here Mark Lamarr selects his 5 specially chosen acts for his 'God's Jukebox'. James Hunter soul singer, and his recent touring buddy and country blues genius Pete Molinari and Lamarr will be presenting a special Buzzcocks. Latitude will also house the art exhibition, Frank Warren's PostSecret in the Music & Film Arena. Festival goers are invited to submit their own post secret to the exhibition, a collaborative project with Goldsmiths Film Making student, Mercy Laio who will be asking people their secrets for a film project exclusively for Latitude.

Exclusively for Latitude, Future Cinema has created Future Cinema Live, a unique cinema show. Live bands will rescore classic cinema with theatre performers, and the very best films from Future Shorts. Latitude will be showing the award winning documentary film Holocaust Tourism by Glasgow film director Jes Benstock, and Lautrec's combination of laptop sampling and SonVer's electric cello, guitar, percussion, bass and iconic space visuals for 2001: A Dubstep Odyssey. They join a line-up of alternative film and documentaries from BAFTA and the Halloween Music & Film Club.

Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring will be performing alongside VJ Buzzard who will be creating live visuals and more. Plus, as part of Chris Shepherd's afternoon of shorts, films, music and multi-talented artists, George Pringle brings her pop-poetry to Latitude. Other liva acts for the Music & Film Arena includes Eli 'Paperboy' Reed & The True Loves and The Heavy and live performances from Barry Adamson plus much more to be announced.
