Glastonbury Festival Glastonbury Abbey Extravaganza 2008

Glastonbury Abbey Extravaganza returns on the weekend of Friday 8th and Saturday 9th August and will now take place over two nights rather than three, organiser Michael Eavis has announced.

"I've decided we need to cut back the Glastonbury Extravaganza to two nights," said Mr Eavis. "Friday and Saturday 8th and 9th of August will host popular music artists. The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will not be playing this time. It has been difficult to attract enough people to fill the 3 nights and after all, this town has a population of around 10,000 and to attract some 25,000 from this relatively rural part of Somerset is an awesome task."

Kate Nash has also been confirmed for the Saturday when she will join The feeling on the bill and Friday night's line-up is Squeeze and Lulu. Saturday has guitar pop band The Feeling and another act still to be confirmed.

Michael Eavis added, "Thank you very much for coming over the years and I'm very keen to continue the event on the basis of two nights only. Perhaps next year we can do one night with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and another popular music night. In any case I'm sure we'll all have yet another wonderful weekend in August."

The farmer and festival organiser has always ensured that the production quality of the Extravaganza is second to none. The sound is always excellent and visually these concerts are stunning, with large daylight screens, creative lighting, and fireworks each night.

Glastonbury Abbey is set amid 36 acres of parkland in the centre of the town of Glastonbury, Somerset, the magnificent ruins of the Abbey provide a perfect setting for these three concerts. This unique event has grown in stature over the years and is already a high spot in the musical calendar of the South West. It's a real occasion, with fireworks, lights, candelabra and picnics.

Tickets will be priced at £30 for either night. Tickets for children aged 6 to 16 get in for half the price. Children under 6 get in free. If you buy 10 tickets for one night, you get one free. For more information, contact the Glastonbury Festivals Office on 01458 834596, or email office@glastonburyfestivals.co.uk.

Tickets are on sale from the Glastonbury Festival Office, Glastonbury Abbey, and from Tourist Information Centres in Glastonbury, Street, Wells and Shepton Mallet.
