The Big Chill Big Chill @ Eastnor Castle 2008

Former lead singer of Moloko Roisin Murphy will be bringing her haunting but beautiful voice to the The Big Chill along with electro pop songwriters Hot Chip and acid-country band Alabama 3 as the latest additions line-up heading for Eastnor Castle in Herefordshire.

Other new additions to the festival's line-up include a festival exclusive from critically acclaimed UK psychedelic dubbers - African Head Charge, Federico Aubelle, eclectic Celtic influenced Peatbog Faeries and the innovative dub and jazz masters Spring Heel Jack & Evan Parker 'Birdsong'.

Festival co-creators the ICA (Institute of Contemporary Arts) have also announced a festival exclusive for The Big Chill an 'Action Dub Painting' which sounds an interesting explosion of dub and paint. Lee 'Scratch' Perry will be visually interpreting Adrian Sherwood's dub soundtrack on an improvised canvas to be auctioned on behalf of Amnesty International.

The ICA will also bring live music from such eclectic artists as Dada art rockers Lust Faust, Douglas Fishbone, pop culture poet Jeffrey Lewis, and Aileen Campbell who will lead a choir of first-time singers to Eastnor through an instructional video!

The Big Chill's Club Tent will house everything from acoustic rock & roll to classic dance tracks, jazz quartet style confirmed artists include UK techno icons Hot Chip Play Hip Hop feat. Dels (DJ Set), new material from one of the most influential producers, DJs and multi instrumentalists, Nitin Sawhney (DJ Set) and cult rock & rollers Alabama 3 (Acoustic).

The Words in Motion Area has added more names from literature, poetry, words and debate at The Big Chill including internationally renowned poet Lemn Sissay – currently an artist in residence at The South Bank Centre and Apples & Snakes who are showcasing a special 25th anniversary programme. The line-up also includes stand-up poet, armchair revolutionary and recumbant rocker Elvis McGonagall and Manchunian Poet, MC and playwright Martin Stannage aka Visceral, Oily Cart's Joseph Coelho, journalist and author Neil Boorman plus many, many more.

Artists and partners already confirmed for the festival which takes place from Friday 1st until Sunday 3rd August include Leonard Cohen, The Mighty Boosh, Bill Bailey, Bomb the Bass, John Shuttleworth, Buzzcocks, The Thievery Corporation, The ICA, The BFI, Underbelly, The Roundhouse, Random Dance, Portico Quartet, Rachel Unthank and the Winterset, Ara Malikian. Trentemøller (Live), New Orleans Hot 8 Brass Band, John Metcalfe, Vincent Vincent and the Villains.

New for 2008 are 'The Big Warm' with storytelling and song around campfires; the 'Moonlit Picture House', a late night, outdoor cinema with short and feature films; a comedy tent wiuth a line-up of established and up-&-coming comics; 'Words in Motion' is expanding, bringing more poetry and storytelling; A Victorian Fun Fair; and children's playground within the Family campsite to give little'uns a space to play close to home. There's also the 'Underbelly Comedy Area' which houses a new comedy tent.

On-site facilities include a shop selling groceries & newspapers, bars, food stalls, merchandise stalls, cash point machine and a 24 hour cafe amongst other things. Alcohol cannot be brought into the main arena but is permitted in the camping areas (but NO GLASS!).

'Early bird' tickets are available, Individual Adult or Children's (now renamed 'Teen tickets') tickets are available, and live-in vehicle tickets, are also on sale, at the same prices as for 2007.
These prices are:-
Adult: £129.
Student: £110 (with Amnesty International membership, for full-time students only) Teen: £60.
Live-in vehicle: large £80, small £40.
Anyone attending in a live-in vehicle must have a campervan ticket. Awnings are allowed and a maximum of 2 tents with each vehicle. Cars are not allowed in this area.
