Golden Silvers and The Travelling Band win Glastonbury New Talent Finals
and all finalists are offered the chance to play at the festival

Glastonbury Festival Glastonbury Festival 2008

Last night saw the final night of the Glastonbury new bands finals competition held in Pilton and at the end festival organiser Michael Eavis announced the two winners as The Golden Silvers as the new band 'Oasis, Coldplay' type winner and The Travelling Band as the finals' overall winner. Both acts played the finals on the Friday and were indeed worthy winners.

The Golden Silvers

Mr Eavis also declared that fourteen acts would be offered a chance to perform somewhere at the Glastonbury Festival which takes place at Worthy Farm, Pilton, near Glastonbury, Somerset from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th June.

Speaking afterwards to eFestivals Michael Eavis clarified that the 14 artists would be the twelve acts who played in the two day competition and joining them would be 2 acts who appeared at a low key event on the Friday night where the 'best of the rest' had performed for locals.

Mr Eavis also felt the talent this year was the best ever and was slightly miffed that he'd got the name of one of the acts wrong when he'd announced them minutes before.

The Travelling Band

eFestivals has reviews online of both nights, night one is here and night two is here. The twelve bands who were competing in this competition were 28 Costumes, Andy Hickie & The Merry Maidens, Charlene Sorai, The Franks, The Golden Silvers, Mankala, Myth Of Unity, Revere, Rod Thomas, Swimming, The Travelling Band, and Young Runaways.

The two other acts who will be joining them, Mr Eavis wasn't prepared to name to eFestivals, just in case, he said, he got their names wrong too.

The deadline for Glastonbury's pre-registration scheme has ended. Anyone who wants to buy tickets to the Festival which takes place at Worthy Farm, Pilton, near Glastonbury, Somerset from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th June when they go on sale on Sunday 6th April needs to be registered.

If you've registered for Glastonbury, then why not enter the eFestivals' competition to win yourself a pair of tickets here!
