Summer Sundae Weekender Summer Sundae Weekender 2008 Summer Sundae Weekender have announced an impressive line-up of top class acts in wide range of musical genres to entertain visitors to De Montfort Hall and Gardens, Leicester from Friday 8th to Sunday 10th August.
The two headliners on a bill packed with entertaining stars are psychedelic, genre-hopping scousers The Coral who will be playing playing an acoustic set, and everyone's favourite wacky upbeat, feelgood band Supergrass.
Also at the top of the bill is minimalist rave dance act Simian Mobile Disco, and former lead-singer of Moloko - the wonderfully voiced Roisin Murphy. Scandinavian genius Erlend Øye and his Berlin-based outfit in his folk-non-electronica rave guise as Whitest Boy Alive, and there's Fife's electronic/acoustic folk star King Creosote, as well as Americans Of Montreal making their synthesized pop laced sounds.
Summer Sundae Weekender has always championed new talent and this year once again it has two of the UK music's hottest properties. Traditional songstress and this year's folk Horizon Award winner Rachel Unthank and the ultra talented musician Dev Haynes aka Lightspeed Champion will be entrancing crowds at Summer Sundae with their compositions.
The five star musical bill in this announcement is completed by anarcho-punk rocker/lo-fi genius Jeffrey Lewis, intimate singer/songwriter Tom Baxter, the amazing songwriter with an incomparable voice Nina Nastasia, and infectious Cambodian psychedelic pop scenesters Dengue Fever.
Festival Director Richard Haswell of De Montfort Hall is clearly happy with the musical delights on offer, "We are delighted to be making out initial announcements for Summer Sundae 2008. These are just the first of over 100 acts that will be revealed over the next few months, but already we have the makings of the best festival yet. With only a bit over a week left to buy tickets at the early bird price we expect that the box office is going to be very busy over the next few days."
Co Director Rob Challice of the Coda Agency added, "Already this year's Summer Sundae Weekender bill is already looking one of the strongest line-ups to date with the likes of Supergrass and The Coral (acoustic set). We're no longer the best kept secret of the Summer festival circuit. We are especially pleased that we've secured acts of the moment like Lightspeed Champion, Whitest Boy Alive and Simian Mobile Disco. Expect more in this vein in future announcements." Good news for those festival fans that love their music.
