and Wychwood in your pocket

Wychwood Music Festival Wychwood Music Festival 2008

Wychwood Music Festival, which takes place between Friday 30th May and Sunday 1st June at Cheltenham Racecourse, has announced another diverse crop of additions to the music stages and details of the very first Wychwood Festival podcast.

The festival has noticed that 2008 appears to be the year of the female singer songwriter and so has booked a new brace of them. Firstly, one of the most talked about rising stars of the year, Welsh soul sensation Duffy will be appearing on the Saturday. Joining Duffy on the bill is singer Emma Pollock the former Delgados singer. Wychwood Festival has also announced another burgeoning group Rachel Unthank & The Winterset and Wychwood favourites Transglobal Underground will be making a popular return.

The festival has also announced that the very first podcast will be launched w/c 11 February 2008. Hosted by hugely respected club DJ, radio and TV presenter and African music expert Rita Ray alongside the multi-talented Max Reinhardt, the podcast is being billed as the "sound of Wychwood in your pocket" and will feature tracks from this year's already diverse line-up, exclusive interviews and more.

Already announced for this year's stellar line-up is The Imagined Village, Kate Rusby, The Blockheads featuring Phill Jupitus, Dreadzone, Wychwood regular Robyn Hitchcock, Orchestra Baobab, with their Latin-flavoured African pop on Saturday and Sunday festival goers will experience a "Cambodian pop rock psychedelic dance party" with Dengue Fever. All this plus mouthwatering new bands like Misty’s Big Adventure, Stornoway, and David Brewis’ School of Language.

The comedy bill in 2008 curated by Comedy Store Player Andy Smart, already boasts Sean Lock, Phill Jupitus, Dave Johns and Stephen Frost, and Jeff Green.

The very family-friendly Wychwood aims to be intimate and inclusive for audience and musician alike, blending world, roots and contemporary music, and encouraging new collaborations, with an ethical bent to its theme, fundraising for Oxfam. There's also comedy, workshops, and more.

Tickets are on sale, priced at £100 for an adult weekend ticket and £75 for a concession weekend ticket (there is also a new 2 for 1 Disabled ticket rate). Campervans are an extra £25. Children aged 11 and under and camping remain free, but need a ticket. To buy, click here or telephone the festival office on 01993 772580.

The festival will be reverting to the same camping set up as 2006, whereby you will be able to drive up to your camping pitch, and unload your camping gear right by where you are setting up. Then emptied cars must be driven off the campsite and to the car park. After the festival, you'll be able to drive back to your pitch to load up. Also returning in 2008 will be the silent disco, back by popular demand.

eFestivals is proud to sponsor the comedy at Wychwood Music Festival, as part of our commitment to support festivals - see here for more information.
