Glastonbury Festival has launched its Glastonbury New Talent 2008 competition – a search for unsigned bands and solo artists who may earn themselves a slot on one of Worthy Farm’s famous main stages.

The competition is open to UK (or UK-based) artists not signed to a major label or publisher. This year the competition is being run online in association with Q magazine, so artists enter by uploading up to two tracks onto the competition website, where you you can also find the full competition rules and conditions. The deadline for uploading entries is 11pm on January 27th 2008.

The overall winners will earn themselves a slot on either the Other Stage or the Pyramid Stage, following in the footsteps of previous winners Liz Green (2007), The Deadbeats (2005) and The Subways (2004). Over 50 performers or groups that entered the competition last year played at Glastonbury 2007.

"It’s been very exciting to have been involved in this competition since the beginning," says Festival organiser Emily Eavis, who will also sit on the judging panel. "Now we are moving to digital entries, our net will be wider. I am sure we will be able to find some incredible new bands out there. It’s great for the competition, and most importantly, it will be a great contribution to the Festival."

Don't forget to keep an eye on the eFestivals Glastonbury 2008 rumours. In 2007, eFestivals was first to say who the headliners were, and we had every act but one correct for the main stage (which were copied word-for-word by the likes of nme.com and others), every act for the Jazzworld stage, plus hundreds of other acts all listed correctly long before the official line-up announcement. A huge thank you to everyone who helped us compile such a comprehensive and accurate list.

Glastonbury Festival 2008 will take place from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th June, with the gates opening on Wednesday 25th. Details on how to purchase Glastonbury tickets are expected to be announced early in the new year.
