WOMAD WOMAD 2006

WOMAD, which takes place from Friday 28 to Sunday 30 July on the banks of the River Thames at Rivermead in Reading, Berkshire has announced the final acts for the festival this year.

Le Cod Afrique (UK), Daby Balde (Senegal), and Pallavi Saran Mathur (India) have just been confirmed and complete the line-up of over 80 acts from over 40 countries on seven indoor and outdoor stages.

WOMAD has also just confirmed a programme of over 150 workshops for adults and children that will take place over the whole festival weekend, offering the chance to get up close and personal with the festival artists and learn about their songs, skills and stories - from circus stunts to puppeteering, from touareg traditions to hip hop dance. A whole host of artists will be involved, including Siyaya (Zimbabwe), Mahotella Queens (South Africa), Los De Abajo (Mexico), Warsaw Village Band (Poland), Reem Kelani (Palestine), Dona Rosa (Portugal), Ska Cubano (UK, Cuba, Jamaica, Japan, Monserrat), Thomas Mapfumo (Zimbabwe), Sarr & Soul (Senegal/Rwanda/UK), Djaaka (Mozambique), Cherifa (Morocco), Modou Diouf & Binta Badji (Senegal), Konono No1 (Congo), Ivo Papasov (Bulgaria), Guo Yue (China), Pascals (Japan), Pedro Luis Ferrer (Cuba), Batucada Sound Machine (New Zealand/Brazil), and many more.

For all the confirmed acts as well as which artist performs on which day, see here.

WOMAD offers more than just live music, with hundreds of participatory workshops for adults and children; late night dance, DJ's and grooves at 'Club WOMAD'; a brand-new Tri-Span stage; a spectacular sound and light experience on Thursday evening; the kids' procession; a traditional funfair; a weekend of shopping in the 'Global Village' with over 250 international food, drink, arts, craft and merchandise stalls - plus sumptuous site deco featuring hundreds of flags, projections, visual art & temporary structures, all adding to the anbience for the 27,000 attendees.
