A 27 year old man was today found guilty and fined £2000 for possession of eight fake wristbands for entry to last year's V Festival at Hylands Park, Chelmsford.
Spencer Cottol of Hertfordshire, pleaded guilty to the charge at Chelmsford Crown Court, where he was also ordered to do 100 hours unpaid community service and placed under the supervision of a probation officer for 12 months.
Today's ruling marks a distinct victory in the festival's ongoing plight against touts who produce fake wristbands to sell to unsuspecting festival goers.
V Festival Director, Bob Angus says: "We are delighted with today's ruling as it is a significant step to stamp out the people that spoil the festival for everyone else. We do not approve of the production of fake wristbands and fully support the Police with any plans to clamp down on people that produce them.
This year's V Festival has sold out but as ever, we urge people not to buy from unofficial outlets as it may well lead to disappointment."
And while we're on the subject, don't buy from eBay touts either - people moan about these greedy scumbags buying up tickets and denying them to people who actually attend, but while people feed the touts with their money they'll just carry on. The only way to defeat them is for everyone to boycott them - they'll stop like a shot if they lose money because they're stuck with unsold tickets!
