Leeds Festival go-ers raise over £10,000 for Martin House Hospice
Fri 11th Nov 05

Leeds Festival Leeds Festival 2005

This year, Leeds Festival organisers Mean Fiddler teamed up with Geldards Coaches in Yorkshire to offer festival goers a low impact option of getting to and from the festival. Geldards were chosen due to their ability to offer the cheapest fare to and from the site, as well as their commitment to donate a certain amount of the money raised from bus ticket sales to a local charity.

With 50p from each single ticket and £1 from each return ticket purchased over the weekend, Geldards Coaches raised £10,000 for Martin House Hospice - Yorkshire’s first hospice for children with a short life expectancy and their parents. Geldards Coaches and Mean Fiddler will present the cheque to the Hospice on 24th November at 3.30pm at the Main House, Bramham Park, Bramham, Leeds.

Martin House Hospice is one of the best loved charities in the local area, caring for children since their opening in 1987. The hospice offers a range of care including respite, where families can take a break from the stress of looking after a child with short life expectancy, through symptom control from dedicated and experienced medical teams to emergency care and support for families through the terminal care process and bereavement. Their work is a great help to families under huge stress and the money raised will help to ensure that more families can depend on Martin House to help them through very difficult and emotional times. You can help Martin House directly by going to their website at: www.martinhouse.org.uk.

At this year’s Leeds Festival, 30% of the audience used the shuttle buses from Leeds city centre to and from the site, way above the national average for such journeys (airports receive 2% of their customers by public transport) and Mean Fiddler would like to thank all festival goers for recognising the ‘green’ message of the festival and showing support for Mean Fiddler’s attempts to have as little environmental impact as possible throughout the weekend.
