Glastonbury to issue photo ID cards
latest bid to beat the touts

BBC Online is reporting that Glastonbury Festival organiser Michael Eavis has told them he's to issue photo ID this year to ticket purchasers in a bid to beat touts.

The report says that the cards will include a photograph of the ticket-holder plus an electronic chip with their details to prevent tickets being sold on or forged. It goes on that ticket holders will be able to use their own photo ID (such as driving licence or passport) if they wish.

Michael Eavis has become increasingly frustrated by touts making a fortune from re-selling tickets, and for the first time last year printed the buyers ID on the tickets, and required them to have matching ID to gain entrance.

Although broadly successful, some tickets were still re-sold, along with the ID. The use of photo ID should block this loophole.

Tickets for the Festival go on sale on 3rd April, priced at £125. See here for the details so far available - more info will be made available in due course. The Festival takes place from 24-26 June.
