2,000 parking spaces which were planned to be used for this weekend's Reading Festival at the Richfield Avenue site are out of use, as the torrential rain has made it too muddy for vehicles.

Drivers will be now be redirected to Madejski Stadium, the home of Reading Football Club, so that people can use the park and ride. It is not yet clear whether the park and ride buses will run direct to the site or into the town centre. The stadium car park is available after a deal was struck with Reading Borough Council and the Football Club - luckily the Royals are away this weekend at Millwall.

More parking space may also have to be found, if King’s Meadow is also unusable. The council are monitoring the situation, as the rain continues to fall.

Festival traffic coming from the west will be directed from the M4 at junction 12, through Tilehurst. Traffic coming into Reading from the east via the A329(M) will be directed on to Caversham Road around the back of the town centre.

The weather forecast continues to be ... ummm ... depressing. Make sure you're properly dressed for the conditions!
