addressing villagers concerns will cost good causes money
extra security at the expense of charities

According to an article in the Bristol Evening Post (from 11th January), the extra security measures for the villages closest to the Glastonbury Festival site at Worthy Farm, contained within the second Public Entertainments Licence application (to be heard on 17th February), is to be at the expense of the good causes that benefit from the festival's profits.

The plan is to spend around £100,000 allaying the villagers fears, by siting 50 CCTV cameras at potential trouble-spots, as well as providing a 200-strong private security team. The ticket price is to remain the same as in 2002 - £97 (plus £3 booking fee), expected on sale on 1st March - and so the extra expense will be to the cost of the good causes.

Following the success of the new fence in keeping out those without tickets last year, Pilton (and elsewhere) suffered from the 100 or so people who made a nuisance of themselves (mainly from trespassing) outside the fence.

A preliminary hearing of the appeal against the Council's refusal to grant the (first) licence application was held on 10th January, where Operations Director Melvin Benn said that significant moves were already being made by the organisers to address the Council's objections. The full appeal hearing - if the organisers choose to pursue it (they may choose not to if the second licence application is granted on 17th February) - is scheduled for 5th March.
