Glasto licence hearing date set
public meeting for locals too

Wed 20th Nov 02

Glastonbury Festival Glastonbury Festival 2003

The date has been set – 12th December - for the Public Entertainment Licence hearing for next year's Glastonbury Festival. Preceding it – on 9th December – is a public meeting, which gives locals the chance to air their views on how the Festival affects them.

Following the success of the new measures introduced this year at the insistence of the council and police, it is not thought that there are the strong concerns to the Festival going ahead in the way there was for this year. The Festival has applied to increase the attendance numbers next year by 10,000 (to a total of 150,000 – that number includes all staff, performers, etc). It's thought the majority of the extra tickets will be allocated to staff and performers.

We will of course attend the meetings, and bring you news of what happens.

Subject to the granting of the PEL, the Festival will take place on 27th-29th June, with the gates opening on 25th June.

Bands already rumoured to appear include R.E.M., Craig David, Rolling Stones, Lamb, Suede and Idlewild.
