Glastonbury: license hearing this Thursday!
no objections from police, but some concerns

Tue 22nd Jan 02

With the Regulatory Board of Mendip District Council due to hear Glastonbury Festivals' application for a Public Entertainments License this Thursday, it's been revealed that the police (one of those involved in the license decision) have no objections to the application (which was submitted on 21st December).

Avon and Somerset Police had indicated that they would have opposed a previous application - submitted in early November - due to concerns over public safety. That led to the withdrawal of the application on 27th November. It's believed that the concerns were to do with the amount of detail contained within that application, rather than to the plans themselves.

Although the police have no objections, they do raise their concerns about some matters - which the Regulatory Board will have to consider - including an increase in crime for the area (but this common to all public events, including "nice" ones such as Henley Regatta).

It's hoped that the license will be granted at this Thursday's hearing, and we wish Michael and his team the best of luck.

We will bring you LIVE updates from the meeting as it takes place, as well as the decision as soon as revealed on Thursday evening.
