We're pleased to hear that, despite the financial problems suffered this year, it's hoped that Guildford Live Festival will continue. It's hoped that a festival will take place on 19-21st July 2002.
Organiser Tony Scott has told us that he is still hoping to put together the event next year, and believes that it is a strong possibility. It is of course imperative that it doesn't run at a loss!
According to the Surrey Advertiser, the event is given an amount of financial support from Guildford council - a grant covering 50% of the cost of hiring Stoke Park for the event - but the director of leisure services, Jim Miles, has virtually ruled out increased financial support from the council to help it continue. He did give his support for the festival, and its importance to the image of Guildford.
We wish Tony every success with keeping the festival running, as it would be a shame to lose one of the better UK outdoor events.
