Rat's are awesome. The ones I've got know there name and will run and jump on your hand to be carried about - they're very tame and friendly. Even though chicken is the littlest rat, she wins fights with all the others - I think they're slightly scared by her mutant looks.

Do they climb things? I want them to climb up my leg!

They climp everything - which can be a pain when the 4 of them are out - you have to keep a watchful eye on them. Be careful of them climbing your legs if you have shorts or such on - it can make your eye's water slightly :D:)

Ouch!! I've had cats climb my leg before now so I'm sure I'd be able to take the pain :D

I'm thinking of getting 2 to start with.

Two is a good number and is the minimum you should get - they keep each other company and are very sociable. I used to have 2 but that number grew to 4 :). I bought chicken but she was really shy and timid at first and just sat on her hammock - so i went back to the pet shop and got another rat from the cage she was in (moomin). Now they're all really firendly - I think the younger ones learnt to trust humans from the older ones.

Im trying the pic thing for the first time but cant find a good pic. Has to be added these cats are a big worry too! Ours (Sasha) had some sort of virus and now had some unexplained back leg problem which got alot better as soon as he got to the vets yesterday! dont know whats wrong with him I think its still something to do with whatever he had a few weeks ago - he hated have his temp taken last time and who can blame him when he saw the thermometer and the lube coming but I think he has a temperature again - they didn't take it yesterday - because I said it was just a problem with his leg/foot. We go back again tomorrow at over £50 a pop each visit its playing havoc with our festival fund! But I am very attached to him - I think he was a bit off his trolley last night - they gave him a painkiller and antibiotics.

thats so weird...we have a black cat too...and she did that for a while...limped around on her back leg...took her to the vet twice, vet couldn't see anything wrong...stopped after a while....it was really strange.

Could be a bite or scratch from another cat. My aunty's cat had the same problems but they could find nothing wrong with it.....until eventually they discovered a tiny cut in between it's toes. The vet put it down to a scratch from another cat, hence the infection.

Antibiotics should be enough to solve it, if that's what it is.

well she shopped doing it a while ago...we thought she'd just got scratched or something cause she fought a lot with other cats when she first came to live here, but we honestly couldn't find anything wrong, we searched her, much to her displeasure...and now it's about year on.

She's a strange bastard anyway.

I love Feijoa's wee face so cute. Is she a hooded rat or mainly brown with a white belly stripe. Thats what Basil looked like & he had cute wee white socks on his front feet.

Looks a bit like Satan too.

Damn you all i am edging even further towards getting a new rat

Same here.

Always ends in pain though.

She's a hooded - although it seems to extend a bit further than previous hooded I've had.

Get a new rat, you know you want too  My wife said i couldn't get any more, but last decemember I happened to see chicken in a petshop and I couldn't resist :) (this let to me buying moomin too!)

Jesus, she's been photoshopped to buggery. Couldn't you find a better picture?!

It was in my photobucket thing from the other day when someone was perving over her - possibley Purple Monkey...

And if you want photoshopped I suggest typing Emma Watson in to google images and looking at the 10th pic that comes up

Although there is also this one of her:
