Wychwood Wedding Reception

We held our Wedding reception at Wychwood Festival this year and had a fantastic time. Thanks to eveyone who helped make it so special, especially Sam the compere.

The organisers were very accommodating and went out of their way to liaise with us and ensure all our guests had a wonderful weekend. We couldn't have asked for more.

We wrote a little ditty about the fun we had:

One sunny morn in early June

To finish off our honeymoon

We loaded up the campervan

And rambled up to Cheltenham

Our destination Wychwood Fayre

To celebrate our wedding there

With relatives and chums, all game

From all around the globe they came

We trundled up, right to the gate

And got straight in, there was no wait

Exchanged our ticket and on our hand

They placed a plastic wedding band

We parked the van and set up camp

And all our stuff we did decamp

Then a whistle filled the air

The kettle had been boiled by Claire

The mobile buzzed and blipped and rang

Messages from all our gang

Our tribe, our mates, illuminati

Their tents were pitched, time to party

Suddenly it was half five

The music stages came alive

To the Independent stage

The sound of music to engage

Our friends appeared, the party swelled

Friendships old and new just gelled

Helped along by Wickwar beer

Stagefright was our favoured cheer

Although a few preferred the Screech

(We found it robbed us of our speech)

Some drank Bob and our friend Ita

Loved the frozen Margarita

We ate our way around the Earth

And seriously increased our girth

The Caribbean, Asia, France

Our stomachs lead a merry dance

Hot pot, noodles, pies, what fun

Cream teas sitting in the sun

Smoothies, Grand Bouffe, Goan fish

All were such a tasty dish

And Wychwood?s great for everyone

Some brought kids who had great fun

All ages made it to the do

The eldest? Margot (82)

(???..but 29 at heart)

The kids they simply had a ball

The workshops really did enthral

They modelled clay and juggled poi

Banged the drums, oh what a joy

What music filled the sunny air

So much to choose from at the Fayre

The Levellers topped the bill, day one

We danced until the day was done

So many highlights at the party

Three Daft Monkeys, Eliza Carthy

Country Joe, a dead cool fella

Rodrigo Y Gabriela

And there were many, many more

A long list would be such a bore

Suffice to say we had a ball

We wish that we had seen them all

To cap it all that afternoon

We went up in the Pimms balloon

A perfect place to hold a toast

Of bubbly, Pimms the perfect host

But nature has a way of course

To let us know about its force

The wind it blew, we were marooned

We bounced about in that balloon

The Groom remarked ?It will not rise?

A worried look in the bride?s eyes

?And when it does it flops back down?

Claire?s face turned into a frown

Is this a sign of things to come?

If so she may go back to mum

Then whoosh they shot into the air

And Claire?s huge smile replaced despair

So thanks to Pimms, the pilot, crew

Who despite all the wind that blew

Worked so hard upon that day

To send us up, up and away

Sam the compere sent folk, lovely

To help us open up the bubbly

So thanks to them, hip hip hooray

You really helped our special day

And what about the weather forecast?

Rain and showers, cold and wind blast

Rubbish! It was really hot

Michael Fish you?re such a clot

And other folk were celebrating

Fine events concerned with mating

Stags and hens both had their do

T?was more like being in a zoo

At dark we bathed ourselves in light

To help us keep our group at night

Those little strings of LEDs

Ensured cohesion was a breeze

The Groom?s top hat was gaily flashing

He really did look rather dashing

The bridal titfer shone so bright

A myriad of points of light

To try our luck a call we made

The digital fairground arcade

George Bush a target? Where?s the gun?

That?s our idea of having fun

During amorous games that night

The Groom he got an awful fright

What goes into the Andy Loo

Had turned Claire?s bottom turquoise blue

We couldn?t shift it with a rub

Or even with a mighty scrub

Chastisement, though perhaps a kink

Restored the shade to sky blue pink.

So thanks to all who came to share

Our wedding bash at Wychwood Fayre

Martin, Jayne and pretty Becci

Andy, Waj and Ed Mirecki

Jon and Carole, Rog and Ali

Tony, Shirley, Sian and Becky

Dave and Gill, Chris and Ita

Lisa, Russell, Emma, Tina

Glen and Theo, Alan, Si

Miles, Mark, Tracey, Guy

Sam and Rueben, Paul and Nicky

Ant and Jock, Ben and Vicki

Margot, Jane, Martin, Julie

Georgia, Miriam, Vilnis, Katie

Lou and Pip, Kristian, Anna

Chris and Mel, Pete and Tessa

And Mark and Kath, who had such fun

They were not seen by anyone

And if a single name?s been missed

It?s probably ?cos we?re still p*ssed

So thanks to all the Wychwood staff

Who made our weekend such a laugh

And Pimms who took us up so high

And ?specially Sam, what a guy

By Monday morn we?d partied out

Our voices gone, we couldn?t shout

Chilled and loved up, one thing?s clear

We?ll all be coming back next year!

What a weekend!

Returned to Wychwood this year to celebrate our wedding anniversary after we held our reception there last year. 1 year now and counting!

Good points:

Great vibe - Loved The Blockheads, Duffy, Palladium

Fine beer - £2.50 a pint? We pay more at our local!

Excellent food - what about the steaks and burgers on the ‘La Vache’ stall beautifully marinated and melted in the mouth.

Market - Great value. We now have new summer wardrobes. Lovely bloke selling chairs (Love to your wife, hope she’s on the mend) and I picked up a great vinyl album of Sir John Betjeman’s warm tones.

Company - lovely people to chat to outside the beer tent (Hi Nadya and Paul, love the album on myspace)

Solar Cinema - What a crazy animation about the elephant but surely it shouldn’t have died! (And great brandy coffee in there)

Silent Disco – Crazy Dutch guys and a surreal experience dancing with Steven Frost, Josie Lawrence and Neil Hannon

Toilets - Proper ones that flush, with a cleaner

Bad points:

Ha, ha, NONE!

A fantastic weekend. Well done Wychwood organisers! And thanks again Sam for another great job.
