Sawdusty surfer
EJ is about to announce his retirement from performing which will involve a last world tour. Maybe Glastonbury 2019 and could that be his final ever gig? Glastonbury goes out worldwide so he would think it suitable for a final show on home turf? Crazyfool01
I definitely think he would make a better sunday afternoon legend .. than an evening headliner not sure why ... but thats my thoughts anyway

FuzzyDunlop
Have him headlining. Arctic Monkeys Taylor Swift Elton John Done. Far too many hits for an hour / hour & 15 legend slot Edited January 24, 2018 by FuzzyDunlop
CaledonianGonzo
Edit: Oops. That's not the announcement. Anyway, 3 year farewell tour. I'd say it's happening in some shape or form. Edited January 24, 2018 by CaledonianGonzo
pie_and_a_pint
I'd love to see him play, but I do think a headliner feels more appropriate that the Sunday oldies slot. He's got too much material for a start.

CaledonianGonzo
Given the circumstances this'll be the hottest / most popular tour he's done since the seventies. Might be enough by itself to bump him up to the top of the table.
doogie
He's playing the Montreux Jazz festival (in Switzerland) on Saturday 29 June and Sunday 30 June 2019. I suspect that rules him out for 2019.

CaledonianGonzo
I can't see his tour dates (his website keeps crashing) but I'm fairly sure that in recent years he's hopped around between countries on consecutive dates.

dentalplan
Announcing 2019 festival dates before the 2018 festivals have taken place? Who does he think he is? Does he have no sympathy for the indexing of eFestivals? Edited January 24, 2018 by dentalplan

SomeoneListeningIn
Does seem to be a likely candidate for 2020, looks as if it could coincide nicely with the back end of his tour.
CaledonianGonzo
When are you gonna come down? When are you going to land? And will you stay on the farm? You should get booked by Emily's old man
Sawdusty surfer
Hard to think of many still regularly touring performers/bands that deserve a headlining slot more. "That haven't played Glastonbury before.

CaledonianGonzo
I'm just about the last person to slap Reg Strikes Back on the turntable, but yeah - give the old goat his swansong and book him in the top slot. He's been part of the cultural life of the UK for nigh on 5 decades and he deserves his final moment.

After finally being able to load his tour dates, it doesn't seem terribly promising that he's doing his European tour to fit Glasto 2019 but has chosen to do the only two nights of Montreux Jazz that coincide with Glastonbury that year. Like, would he be planning to route his whole farewell tour to come back and do Glastonbury on its 50th anniversary when he coulda just played the 4th/5th night at Montreux and did Glastonbury in 2019? I hope he does it and hope he gets a headline slot but I don't think I'm as confident as anyone else.
Badlands
It would be a shame if he didn’t. Either headliner or legend slot would go down well. That list of acts that are of a certain demographic appeal is getting smaller, I thought they’d pull out the stops.
The Clearest Blue
Still can’t get the tour dates to load, it’s clearly a popular tour

Say he spoke to Glastonbury and they said he could play either of the two years he may prefer to do the 50th anniversary year out of the two. If Emily (I think) has said they've already had artists offering to play in 2020 then I don't see it as unrealistic.

Absolutely but I'm sceptical as to: why he'd route his tour to repeat itself for a festival that he has no relationship with and has never seemed interested in forging one. the popular suggestion that the festival will be loading 2020 up with all the mega stars it can handle and leaving slim pickings for 2019/2021. Still more than happy to play with the idea of that being the case and maybe he is romanced by the 50th anniversary or he's got UK festival plans (IOW most likely) that impinge on 2019 availability. And it'll at least give a breather from every suggestion for that year being shot down by "no mate it's Coldplay".
