Album of the Year 2017

Recommended Posts

Okay since I'm ill and have too much time on my hands, I've done the dirty work this year. I gave 10 to the top album, 9 to the second etc., then added up the scores.

Up to 30th place there's some clear ordering but then there's a lot of 6 way draws so I'll just provide the top 30:

28. Tyler, the Creator - Flower Boy
       Ryan Adams - The Prisoner
Julien Baker - Turn Out the Lights
27. Paramore - Hard Times
26. London Grammar - The Truth is a Beautiful Thing
24. The Cribs - 24/7 Rockstar Shit
The Moonlandingz - Interplanetary Class Classics
23. Sundara Karma - Youth is Only Ever Fun in Retrospect
22. Bonobo - Migration
21. Loyle Carner - Yesterday's Gone
19. Sampha - Process
       Brand New - Science Fiction
18. The Horrors - V
17. Father John Misty - Pure Comedy
16. Idles - Brutalism
13. Los Campesinos! - Sick Scenes
Royal Blood - How Did We Get So Dark?
       Run The Jewels - RTJ3
12. Everything Everything - A Fever Dream
10. St. Vincent - MASSEDUCATION
Queens of the Stone Age - Villains
9. The War on Drugs - A Deeper Understanding
8. Wolf Alice - Visions of a Life
7. Slowdive - Slowdive
6. The xx - I See You
5. Arcade Fire - Everything Now
4. LCD Soundsystem - american dream
3. Kendrick Lamar - DAMN.
2. Lorde - Melodrama
1. The National - Sleep Well Beast

So there you have it, efestivals' year in music! Roll on 2018

Nice work, shocked that Everything Now made the top 5 considering the panning it took on here.

Nice collating there. I was going to put in a prediction before we started listing that Sleep Well Beast would get number 1, also had an inkling that Lorde, LCD, Kendrick would be high up as well. I know these boards.

Arcade Fire at 5 though, sort that out.

Oh btw I've never done anything like this before but I had a go at a blog post for my top 20 albums of the year. It's only pretty vague overviews of each album cos I'm not the best at talking about why I like music, but it was fun to write. Feel free to have a read.

Based off recommendations I picked up a couple of albums I'd missed this year - so people off efests I will be seeking a collective refund of £15 if they're awful. :D

Sundara Karma are alright leave em alone

Maybe I’m being overly harsh, but I saw them support someone this year, can’t remember who. Was thoroughly bored, in fact I was as bored as they looked on stage!

Oh they’re a massive snooze live for sure but I found the album to be fairly good.

Reckon if we get to Sunday and there's still a good chance of Gorillaz doing that slot I'll just stay in the tent for Frank Carter after King Gizz. No huge loss missing Gibb - he's got bangers but we all know he's going to be crap - and it'll be probably impossible to get into the tent otherwise.

(Does mean a 5 act run in the JP though which is potentially a bit dull. But when they're such great acts...)

and just in case it wasn't clear you were referring to them

So you were just whinging about seeing five consecutive acts on that stage, despite the earliest act on being someone whose album you’re at pains to tell everyone is bad and therefore completely expendable?

Kind offer but I’ll just ether him on here when I need to.

I'd barely listed to them at that point. I was planning on checking them out cos there wasn't anything on I was fussed about. Then speculating that waiting after for a hypothetical secret set may get dull. They're not one of the great acts I was referring to.
