ConorC
I echo @eFestivals sentiment regarding Boomtown. I went this year and had a top time but I don't think it's somewhere I'm gonna be clamouring to get to every year. There were about a dozen acts I wanted to see (only a couple of real 'must-sees). That and the production - which is admittedly spectacular - definitely made the visit a worthwhile one. But is the production good enough to keep me coming back without a lineup to my tastes? I dunno, unless they've added a load of new areas (possible) I think it could become a little 'samey'. It's not the same size as Glasto so you can see pretty much everything you want to in one visit I reckon. Would definitely recommend it for at least that one visit though. Will wait for more lineups in the next couple of months, but if they're similar to this year I'll probably go with Bestival out of the 2. And I do prefer a mix of genres, but the other genres that Boomtown specialise in - reggae, folk, world music - are not my thing at all. I much prefer Bestival's mix, both in terms of genres covered and the way they book everyone from big established names to newcomers and underground acts. But I do think that Boomtown's build looks pretty awesome. Couldn’t agree more. Every time I look at the Boomtown lineup it just screams ‘Music for white middle-class annoying knobs who think they’re cultured and cool.’ I dont want to go anywhere near gap yaar twats skanking to reggae, folk or world music. And their dance lineup is distinctly average and completely ignores some pretty critical genres. Frrrraaappp head
A new Irish festival has been launched by POD Promotions for 3rd - 5th August called All Together Now in Curraghmore House, Portlaw, Co Waterford, a line up hasn't been announced yet but I would imagine they might be trading bands and acts with Bestival, possibly. http://www.beat102103.com/entertainment/major-concert-promoter-teases-new-summer-music-festival-waterford/ Edited January 21, 2018 by Frrrraaappp head
gsansom
So Britney Spears starts her tour in Brighton on the Saturday of Bestival. She also had an album called Circus. Stars aligning on this one? Anyone else in to wooden dance moves and lip syncing?

Matt - Ed Banger Records
I think it will be another year of consolidation to be honest, shore up the finances and deliver enough to get people through the doors but without it costing the world. Nobody is really standing out as an obvious fit for Bestival, so it'll be interesting to see what they come up with. With the date change, and Boomtown looking like it will sell out quite quickly this year, maybe they will pick up some of the punters who would have liked to have gone there but didn't get their act together. Ah of course - keep forgetting about that, assume there will still be some additional build and load in costs, but yeah takes a massive chunk of cost out of the budget with that alone. It's a festival I really want to see do well, so I'm hoping it settles any doubts that people have had over the last 3 years or so, going to depend very heavily on the weather in the weeks leading up to it. They are confirmed for Boomtown the following week and it's been said that it's a UK festival exclusive for 2018. Not sure how exclusive it is but given the two events are consecutive, I reckon Bestival needs different headliners. Bestival have already chopped off some of their market, who will do Boomtown instead I reckon.
