We'll have a stonking hot summer so absolutely no issues with the ground we can all do Camp Bestival then straight onto Bestival then straight onto Boomtown none of us needs to sleep/recover/work! It'll all be fabulous And we can dress as clowns/circus freaks/ jugglers what's not to love Ha ha. This sounds an amazing idea.

A level students usually have to enroll the Thu or Fri of Bestival I believe.
zahidf
Its a shame it moved but i guess it was harder to sell tics middle of Sep, less bands around and worse weather! Also, if it makes it a lot cheaper to run, prob for the best overall

jackarmy
This was on Bestival's snapchat. I'm guessing some of the ideas for headliners are more serious than others. I could definitely see Vampire Weekend or The Smashing Pumpkins playing if they're looking to take the festival in another direction. Insane Clown Posse and The Grateful dead less so... tillyandthewall
This is an absolutely bonkers idea. It's two completely different festivals. I've had a look at Camp Bestival last year. Although some things have the same setup (main stages, Caravanserai, inflatable church), Camp B has a lot of childrens areas, and its premium camping area is used by Bestival for its full-on music stages. Plus the organisers love their sponsorship, but they're for different markets - Camp B has Waitrose and Volvo, Bestival has Sailor Jerrys and Desperados. Could they get these all switched round in 72 hours? Same with the theme, it would be difficult to change the decoration with litter pickers and build/break staff on site in a short timescale. It would have to be the same theme? The only way I reckon it would work would be to put some areas off-limits for one festival, and use them only exclusively for the other, e.g. around the castle for the kids, and north of the arena for the naughty stuff. I've got a sinking feeling it's going to be a half-baked compromise for both though.
eFestivals
I'd guess they'll be an amount of swap-around with the site, so that the same parts are used the same way for both fests (or at least, to a greater degree than happened this year). And while they're probably hoping they might persuade any sponsorship and stalls to run across both festivals, having an amount of stuff (stalls, sponsored areas) swap-around in the few days between wouldn't actually be the huge problem you're imagining. A lot of this stuff moves from one festival to another over that few days anyway.
stocky3000
What is going to happen when the site is so churned up after the first weekend that it is an absolute nightmare for the second?

That's the biggest risk, I'd say. I guess they'll be able to offset that to better degree than you might be thinking, because the build costs for each fest will be (roughly) half of what those costs were, so they should have plenty of spare cash to spend on trackway/chippings/etc which might not otherwise have got bought in. gsansom
Anyone else thinking the date move leading to costs saving could be done with a view to investing in the lineup and getting the festival back to it former glory. I bloody well hope so. What's people thoughts on potential headliners this year?

They should have a few extra quid to spend on the line-up ... then again, they might well have some heavy debts to shift as well (I've no idea, but I suspect there were big losses on the last IoW Bestival). But what they can't do, I think, it grow it back to around the same size. I think that site is maxed-out at around 30,000.
tillyandthewall
Yeah there is a traffic plan in place, even then there's queues of cars coming into site. 30K's the limit. If they're touring next year, then N*E*R*D would be an ideal fit.
Brave Sir Robin
Debating this or Boomtown next year, leaning towards this now that it's on the mainline and in August, although the prospect of a knackered site from the previous weekend is a concern. Anyone do both last year and care to share thoughts?

Boomtown's production obviously looks amazing, but the lineups have never excited me. I think I'd get bored. (Plus it always clashes with my wife's birthday, which rules it out for me anyway, until the day they book the Cure, in which case she'll be going there.) I reckon there's more than enough there to see and do to stop anyone getting bored on a first visit, by enough to make it enjoyable and to be pleased they'd gone - but that doesn't necessarily mean they'd go back. It's probably only those who demand familiar or big name mainstream bands who'd be outside of that.
Homer
Gorillaz seem a good fit for Bestival to me. Would be nice if they could book Justice AND (crucially) get them onto the stage next year too. The thing putting me off Boomtown is it looks too dance music/drug-orientared to me (I may be wrong). I like all that stuff - but not a relentless weekend of it. I think my ship may have sailed on that one sadly...

smogo
I mainly like dancey stuff, but Boomtown's dance lineup never seems to be that special - you can catch the majority of their DJ lineup at every other festival in any given summer. And I do prefer a mix of genres, but the other genres that Boomtown specialise in - reggae, folk, world music - are not my thing at all. I much prefer Bestival's mix, both in terms of genres covered and the way they book everyone from big established names to newcomers and underground acts. But I do think that Boomtown's build looks pretty awesome.

After many years of fighting my way through the "day trippers" in Shangri-la that's the main thing that puts me off.
