Friends are off to a festival next weekend, aged mid 40s but first time festival goers.  I,'m giving them some advice but with kind of 30 years of festivals under my belt im struggling not to go overkill on the detail!  What advice did you get as a festival first timer that was brilliant?   They arent into drugs or dressing up but are all experienced campers...

Help!

Seconded on the Lenor bottle and the earplugs.

ps. also don't sweat bringing campsite cooking stuff past morning coffee/tea and some easy brekkie snacks - festival food is part of the fun (assuming it's not a trash commercial fest)

Fold up camping chairs (puts on tin hat).  I know that opinion is powerfully divided on this subject but ......

During the day when there may not be a lot of music on it's great to bimble around a site, perhaps grab a bite to eat and sit, chill and watch the world go by. If it's wet then sitting on the ground might not be so easy but you don't have a problem with a camping chair. So, used responsibly, a camping chair can be a great help.

What you don't do is go down to the front before a band comes on and plonk a camping chair in front of everyone else.  If you want to watch a band from a camping chair, place it near the back of the crowd and, as always, check with the people behind you that you're not blocking their view.

Camp without guy ropes if possible, or if absolutely necessary, make them short and close to the tent. People will trip over them throughout the night.

If they are not in a dedicated quiet camp, then expect neighbours to be enjoying themselves throughout the night - embrace the mayhem.

And most definitely do not tie them to others or fences. I proper face planted getting caught on laser thin black guy ropes one night. Knew they were there just couldn't see them. Which probably backs up the head torch advice.

Mini bottles of antibacterial soap :)  that hand sanitizer crap doesn't do the job!

I picked that tip up from here. Took a mini bottle of soap and shared it round whenever i was at taps. Such a lovely feeling to have clean smelly hands especially in the heat and most people were very appreciative and even holding taps for each other. Lovely.
