Trailer Tents in Camper Van fields?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if Trailer Tents are allowed in the campervan fields at Glastonbury?  Am guessing they are treated the same as caravans/campervans but haven't seen one there... thinking of getting one for family hols and this use would be an added bonus!

Yes, I saw one pulling up, and I believe @whisty has one (?) so they are there.

Yep, I've taken mine several times. There's quite a few knocking about it all shapes and sizes. I've got an 80's Dandy, it's great. Easy to tow, easy to put up and very comfortable.

Excellent thank you! How many does yours sleep? Want a 6 berth I reckon... will look at Dandys too - currently on the gumtree hunt for a good second hand 80's or 90's one!

Have a look at folding campers, we have got a pennine Pullman and have taken it for the last 2 years.

They have the added bonus of a fridge and seating area and go for about the same money.

Yep, I take mine :) It's old and 4 berth but could be for sale. If anybody is after an oldish one, ping me a message maybe. Can't promise as have to discuss with my mate.

Nice to catch up with you Carlos, hope you had a good time. Saw you watching Little Dragon but no energy to go through the crowd and tap your shoulder :)

I had a trailer tent for many years and with a huge awning extension it was the best option I've ever had for a social and chilling area. Apart from being light and easy to tow, storage was also easy in mother in law's garage. Be aware that '4 berth' is often a generous description as my two 'double beds' were only 4 foot wide.

Compared to a tent, a trailer tent is absolute luxury and highly recommended as great value for money..

Yes, there were 2 next to me, did seem a bit of a faff setting up but they do have storage advantages over a caravan or Motorhome, I could get one  in my garage whereas my Motorhome has to go in secure storage @ £500/year.

Tents, we all know about.

Trailer Tents, yes a bit of a faff to set up but not as much as big tent and no lugging your gear from the car park.

Campervans, a small tent on wheels, unless you have a good awning.

Motorhomes, very expensive unless you make a lot of use of them.

Caravans, a lot cheaper than a motorhome for a similar sized amount of room inside and no tax and MoT issues, though they still need to be serviced (gas and electric checks etc but no engine/mechanicals).

I've now ended up with a very big caravan, twin axle, four adult berths, shower, flush toilet, and all the works.  But, realistically, it only gets used for about five festivals a year and the occasional weekends with my adult daughters.  It's a luxury and my toy for my old age though Mrs GH (who doesn't do festivals) still reckons my caravan would pay for a lot of nights in nice hotels.

There is no right answer, other than what's right for you and the use you make of it.

I have taken a trailer tent in the campervan fields. Ours had two small doubles, two bench seats next to the beds, extra storage and a massive awning, possibly 1 and half times the bed area. It has a sink and cooker that pulls out.

it is a step up from tents but the toilet in a caravan/motorhome obviously trumps it. Our caravan cost £300 p/a to store, the trailer fits on a small drive. The trailer is a doddle to tow and very easy to put up - the awning not so because its size!

The folding caravans look interesting.

We will have both at a festival next weekend and probably use the awning on the trailer as communal area compared to the caravan awning.
